No tip Ballistic Tip!

Pulling plastic bullet tips will move a bullet's center of mass a teensy bit forward (plastic's a LOT less dense than copper jacket material) while at the same time reducing overall bullet length.

The net result, without even considering the larger meplat (bullet tip) you're creating, will be a decrease in stability.

To my thinking you'd be far better off choosing an appropriate weight bullet for your specific needs rather than modifying something that's been designed to work best as supplied.

I know from experiences of several competition shooters (myself included) that when a tip comes out of an A-Max bullet there's usually little left to show on target for the round just fired.

You're certainly free to experiment though; let us know what you learn if & when you try it.

Already shot them. They shoot great. Same POI & feed fine. Other than a little BC value lose (99% of shots will be <200 yards so it negates) I see nothing but a win-win (unless I find bad terminal performance). However, that little doggy above (I shot it this morning) didn't like em without a tip.

I don't see how removing weight from the front brings the balance more to the front??? -------Two guys are on a see-saw. One little one big. To balance the beam, the big guy scoots up; little guy stays on edge. The balance is somewhere between them (the hing). Now lets say... little guy jumps off the end of the beam... The big guy does NOT go up in the air (he would if balance move forward). In fact, the balance point would move backward toward (nearly under) the big guy. Maybe I'm wrong? (Those late nights staying up for those statics exams are becoming foggy ;D) But I don't think so... :P

Oh! By the way... shorter bullets are MORE stable than longer bullets (all else equal of course) :-*

you are discovering what I shared earlier in the thread....they work well ,just like in the 70's ..hhahaha....at that time they were only in 30 cal...the meat enters the hollow point and hydraulic's the bullet open....Roger

Yep, it seams to be acting just like a plain jane hollow point from start to finish. The design (talking about hollow point) that has been around for ages & is one of the most accurate designs made yet (what are most target bullets). I don't understand why I got tons of replies saying how it's not going to work :-\ & some replies that just didn't make any sense at all.

I asked in my OP if anyone had experience/knowledge of the terminal performance. I have sieved through the riff raff (the guys stating they were wasting their time made that even easier ;D) For those guys who answered the question; thanks.

Before I ever posted the question (about TP), I had worked through all the other stuff. I wasn't hard to load up a few & try them before ever posting. Wasn't going to waste my time or yours if it wasn't going to be worth (more accurate) the trouble of pulling. It may be more rare on here than I thought, but I actually shoot & load & try new things instead of just type on computer & theorize. I also had already tried ALL the bullets (varmint style) that were even near the 70gr weight & the 70 nosler shot best (with tip removed & ogive closer to lands). I had already found they shoot just fine with tip removed. Guess I should have stated all that (I am not a noobie ya-hoo) in my first post & saved a lot of controversy & wasted breath...???

Plastic Tips Premium Price: I know from the industry I work in that the trend in sales today is to convince the buyer he is buying something special so the higher price is justified. It cost 5% more to make it and they charge 20% more.
The only way to know is to shoot it and see the results. I don't see how they can control the tip shape in plastic as well as in metal.

It's so hard because they are not reading close enough to understand what you are saying. The question made perfect sense to me, and here is my opinion.

The plastic ballistic tips are there to increase the ballistic coefficient. Spitzer bullets have the best ballistic coefficients, but they don't expand well with that sharp, metal point. The plastic point gives equivalent aerodynamic performance (to the spitzer) but is easily dislodged on impact, turning the projectile into a hollowpoint for better expansion, so you have the best of both worlds. Removing the tip in advance should simply give you better expansion from the getgo. BC will be reduced, but you already said that is not a concern to you, so go for it. If any loss of accuracy from removing the tip is more than compensated for by better accuracy from being closer to the lands, then you are ahead.

I use 50 grain Nosler BT's and V-maxes in my 223's and 55's in my 22 250. They perform marevlously and I don't understand why you would want to mess with one of the finest varmint bullets on the market. If you want a hollow point, use the Speer TNT or Sierra 55 BTHP; it would be a lot cheaper and simpler than pulling out the BT's!

I get terrible accuracy with. 224" bullets out of a 6mm barrel (no such thing as Sierra 55gr bthp in .243) but thanks for the suggestion.

I don't understand why this is so hard???

I was merely pointing out that the ballistics tips are there for a reason and was trying to share my experience using them, albeit with a different caliber. These are excellent varmint bullets in my experience. In 243 I've use the 70 grain Noslers BT. Again, I don't know why you would want to pull the BT. I don't hunt varmints with 243 anymore, not because of poor results or performance but don't need that level of noise and power where I hunt but that bullet will do all you want on varmints.
