Nosler 52 hpbt?

Looking for input on the custom competition 52 hpbt from nosler as a prairie dog and coyote bullet. If they explode well for prairie dogs or act more like a 35 gr 20 cal berger. I can't get the little bergers to blow up prairie dogs but it is excellent for coyote hides.

I haven't shot the Nosler 52 hpbt on PD's, but I have shot quite a few of them on targets. They have always been a little disappointing to me accuracy wise. Maybe it is just me.

What I have shot a lot of on PD's is the Speer 52 gr HPs. They devastate the dogs, don't tend to ricochet, and can be purchased in the 1000 pack (Speer part # 4708) for 10 cents each. In fact they are on sale at Brownell's today for 9 cents each in 100 packs.

Those are target bullets so I can't imagine them being designed to explode on anything. Buy some 40 or 50 grain Zmax bullets from Powder Valley - 500 for about sixty bucks. You will have a much better time.

My 35 grain Berger bullets didn't explode well either on small varmints. The 32 grain Zmax were much better in that regard.

Yes - I'd try the 50 Z-Max or, for really big "air time" within 350 yards or so, the 50 Barnes Varmint Grenade. The 52 Custom Competition are great informal target bullets but don't open well on small vermin and are far more ricochet prone than most bullets designed for varmints.

Those boat tails ?

I have used lots of them on p-ds. Worked well enough for the price but as others have said the 52gr flat base speer's are the very best for launch action.

I use those bullets in my CZ 527 222. Using rem cases, BR4 primers and 21gr of AR2207 it's a genuine 1/4 minute rifle. Fantastic bullet on small game. They were imported into Australia years ago and were called Nosler Shots. They've since been renamed to custom comps here. One of my favourite bullets. Great in my swift too.

It is my understanding that the Nosler SHOTS are NOT the same as the Custom Competition bullet. I believe the SHOT is a basic cup-and-draw "economy general purpose" bullet (as marketed by Shooters Pro Shop) made here in the U.S. by Nosler- and exported TO the Australian market. I have bought lots of them in .224 and .204 caliber from Shooters Pro Shop - who sells the Nosler overruns and blems. In my experience - they are not as accurate as the Custom Competition. I worked up a lot of loads with them - but ended up not using them as my chosen load in the end. Some day - I will take them into the field to see if they can provide air time as they are very inexpensive and "reasonably accurate" in my rifles. The Custom Competitions were found to be "very" accurate in my rifles - but not enough in my particular rifles to - again - be my chosen load. I use the Custom Competition as my "blasting" load while shooting metal at the range as they are as inexpensive as quality FMJ's, though far more accurate. Not so good on blowing up small critters.

I've only shot one coyote with this bullet. Hit in the shoulder at 340yds it splashed and made for the fastest 3 legged animal I've ever seen. Found and killed her at about 10 yards.

This was out of a 16" AR. I know this wasn't the most ethical shot,etc.,etc.
