220 swift velocities

What are other shooters obtaining for realistic velociites from their swifts? I normally shoot 52 gr SMK for paper punching and 40 gr SBK for prairie dogn. Last year I picked up 700 Berger 30 grainers. I originally was loading this in one of my 223 AI's, but found them quite disappointing on prairie dogs. No expansion out to 200 yards. Figured they weren't moving fast enough. Accurate just not much destruction on the dogs. So for the fun of it I tried the 30 gr Bergers over 49.1gr IMR 4064 produced 3 shot 100 yard groups in the mid .280's. I chronographed today in SW Wisconsin. A brisk 28 degrees with nasty 15 mph winds. Lowest velocity was 4645 - 4730 - 4741 -4795 and after resetting chrono after wind blew over was 4686fps at 10 feet from muzzle. I was expecting low 4300fps results, not the above results. Anyone else try these little bergers in their swifts?? Scott

that sounds amazingly fun!

I haven't shot anything that light in either of mine.

55's would push to 3800
40's were going 4225

So....I would guess your velocities with the 30 grainer is totally believable.

Hi, I haven't tried the Berger's. I have tried the Barnes 36 grain bullets and they clocked 4450 fps avg. This wasn't a max load so more speed is possible, probably. The Barnes worked fine until the wind picked up, 300+ yard shots at pd's became most difficult. These were young pd's smaller than a pack of cigarettes and they just evaporated them!
I think I have some 30 grain Berger's I will have to try them.
