North Dakota PD trip

Another trip to ND to shoot at, or near P dogs.

Day 1 w 22-250. This is a Hart barreled
Rem 700. Not sure of the contour, but the bbl weighs more than my 1st car?! I bought rifle used, unseen, came with some “custom” ammo that shot not so well. I tried a “classic” 22-250 load, for me, anyway…36.2g Varget and Berger 52g HP just off the lands-a vast improvement.

Not my best shooting day,
but OK at sunset when the wind died.

Nice,I like it.A little heft is good in a 22-250 pd gun. They do recoil a bit ,always liked H-380 and H-414 in my 22-250s.Love The Dakota’s for pd’s ,thanks for the pics.

Matt

It has cooled off a bit, from a high of 99 earlier. too hot to shoot all day…
Rifles are consistently shooting 1” high @ 100 yds, I’m guessing due to increased pressure. Tiny bit of brass smear, primers not flattened tho and excellent accuracy. This is a Rem 700 5R .223
1/9 twist. Has a Timney 2 stage trigger, which I like. 53g V maxes work well.Sunset
zero wind, no mirage and the late light make easy work of it!

"Hard to argue with success!"
The Hart is a good looking outfit and I've yet to see a 5R that was a slouch.
Keep us posted!

Today was 12 deg cooler @ Little Missouri River ND and the wind was moderate. From the east, consistant. Maybe 6-8 mph? Steady. 22-243 up next. 73g ELD-M H/4350. It’s always useful in a breeze. 10 for 10 180-320 yds. am. some misses way yonder. Back @ 5:30 pm. easy peasy up close and then the targets were found at 420-520 yds. Many “near misses”. Some hits. so batting .187, I guess. Had the bbl threaded earlier before the trip 5/8 X 24 by Long Rifles, Inc. and I added a brake made by Area 419. Felt recoil much less. Also timing the Area 419 brake - easy. sunset & moonrise.

Do you have access to private or go public? I go out on the grasslands once or twice a year and they seem to be really gunshy. Great photos, I’m jealous of your experience.

It’s public grasslands. Yes, they are gunshy and wary. Less of em, and they go down and stay down (unless hit on 1st round). Usually couple shots mid range and then it’s out to 375-450+ yds.
2 days ago, I was on a hillside when couple fellas
drove through the middle of the town, looking to shoot from a jeep. So yeah, gunshy…

Same thing happens to me every time I’m out there. I don’t understand the level of laziness and sheer disregard of the laws. Not to mention it’s rude to drive where they know a person has been shooting.

Beautiful photos and always a good day shooting PDs. I used to shoot south of there near Lemmon and they got hit pretty hard with the plague a few years ago. Found some generous ranchers that let us shoot on their land and boy did we have a blast. Been too long for me. I need to plan a trip soon.

Maybe fellas scouting at the beginning of bow hunting season/deer. I was 400 yds up a hill, prone and they definitely didn’t see me.
Didn’t help w PD’s, however.

Late Sept is pretty nice. It was hot yesterday but will cool off.

A lot of folks tend to drive where they please on public land. If the stupid SOB’s had a clue of what a tire track leads too,……… To my knowledge you are to stay on marked trails only, period.
One clown sees a tire track and that means they can drive there too, next thing ya know it is a mess. Kind of like open gates, means come on in to a lot of idiots.
I takes one to mess it up for hundreds.

Ha! That's the thread protector for a 1/2 X 28 threaded bbl. You know, 20 gauge slugs at 40 degrees *MIGHT* work as well as anything I did. hmmm
