Norma vs Lapua Brass in 222?

Hi all
Just wondering what the pros and cons of each of these brand of cases might be in your experience in 222 Rem. Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

NO experience with Norma 222 brass..

But i do love using Lapua 222 brass with no issues...

Thanks for reply Phil....I have a bunch of Norma brass already and was just wondering if the consistancy of Lapua might be better or the hardness better that they might last longer. In 222 with the milder powder capacity it might not matter. I do appreciate your reply though.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but there is now plenty of Lapua and Norma brass on the market for .222 Rem. I am betting that quality is pretty good with both.

Does anyone know how well the primer pockets last on these brands? I'm shooting high volume prairie dogs and I would prefer to find a load using one of those two.

I have used both. IF I were running hot, in a BR gun, I would use Lapua. Otherwise I see no real difference in them. Norma is softer.

Norma is softer.

That was my impression. I feel pretty good about stocking up on Lapua brass and running that for a while. I'm sure I can find a good load for the dogs.

I'm a self admitted brass snob so I much prefer to, always, use Lapua brass, in fact I don't hardly have but a couple rifles that doesn't use Lapua brass for its parent case. But, I've used a fair amount of Norma brass and its always been very consistent and uniform, it just doesn't hold primer pockets quite as long as Lapua will and since it costs about the same, I always use Lapua when possible.

There's a couple new players in the brass making world, Atlas Development Group or ADG as they're referred to & Alpha Munitions, that are also making some top notch brass and from what I've been told, it's as good as Lapua.

For high volume PD shooting, i.e. 1000's, I'd build them from LC brass. You'd save $100's for bullets.

BY LC I assume you mean Lake City. Wow! I didn't know they made .222 Rem. brass. I'll have to look into that. I usually buy from Sinclair and they didn't have any. Do you know where I might get them?

They don't. YOU make it from .223 brass with a set of form and trim dies. dedogs

Yes as dedogs clarified, sorry I wasn't more explicit when I wrote "build", you have to push the shoulder back, cut, trim and chamfer the neck, and neck turn.

However I have formed thousands of Vartargs using a 221 Fireball form and trim die as the first step...... very easy to move the shoulder. A .222 form and trim die should work just as well..... and they are very inexpensive.

You'd still save $100's but have many hours of sweat labor in your brass...... however it would be excellent quality brass when done.
