Norma 6Dasher Brass

I think the mandrel for my turner might be oversized....that is most likely why I'm having the problem..I haven't even pulled my dasher out of the safe to see if it will chamber the brass. I think I'll try it on my fire form barrel first. I just looked at Bullet.com and the shell holders are currently "not available". Fire forming dasher brass is a pain in the azz, but I don't see this cutting any time..I'll look through my shell holders and see if I can find something that will work. I hate to have to ask for a return from one of the members here but I don't want to be stuck with these. Confidence level is not high.

Why ask for a return when you got what you asked for? Just turn around and sell them if you're not happy with them... JMHO...

My 2-cents on annealing Shiraz/Norma cases:
Have 6-firings on some Shiraz/Norma cases, that is to my experience are softer then the Lapua made Dasher's with equal firings considerably. I guess if you plan to anneal every cycle regardless then maybe its the thing to do, but myself I haven't seen or felt the need to yet at all from them.

I also made up Dasher's from both Lapua & Norma 6BR brass to run equal comparisons to the Shiraz/Norma's. The necks on both the Norma and Shiraz/Norma are staying equal as best I can judge them. The pockets on the Shiraz/Norma's have stayed a little tighter then the Norma-BR, and are running fairly equal to the Lapua's so far.

Where did you start on powder charge with brand new brass an what powder charge an what velocity on your first firings.

The comparison cases I went easy on the first fire-forming cycle with only 29.7 of RL15 w/ 105-VLD's.
On there 2nd firing loaded them with 32.14 of RL15 / 3015-fps
On there 3rd cycle loaded them with 32.74 of RL15 / 3052-fps
Those were in a 31" Benchmark barrel. The 6th firing was with a 31" Bartlien that averaged 30-fps slower, but is typical of the two barrels (one is faster then the other).

Good Luck

Here is some historical food for thought for the guys fussing about Shiraz lengthing the neck of the new Norma Dasher brass by 50 thousandands. Which, by the way, I completely agree with the change. Lets look back at the original 6BR 'Remington' which began its life in the 1960's as a wildcat from shortened .308 Win. brass. Mike Walker of Remington standardized the 6BR Remington in 1978. The original intent for the cartridge was for short range benchrest. Note the original 6BR 'REMINGTON' had a maximum CASE OVERALL LENGTH OF 1.510. IN 1995 NORMA adopted the 6BR to shoot 300 yard matches and be able to shoot the long 105-107g bullets. When NORMA began producing the brass the Maximal CASE OVERALL LENGTH WAS EXTENDED TO 1.560! That is a 50 THOUSANDS EXTENSION TO THE NECK!! The new case name was then changed to what we know now as the 6BR NORMA!. I think it is ironic that now the short neck Dasher has been standardized by NORMA (Shiraz's brainchild) the NECK has been LENGTHENED by 50 THOUSANDTHS! I bet there were some guys fussing back 20 years ago when NORMA standarized the 6BR and they had to trim the new NORMA brass back 50 thou. to fit there existing 6BR Remington chambers. Exactly 21 years have passed since then. I bet most shooters have forgotten about this cartridge history or they have never heard of it. Given time, I bet we all will be content with new NORMA DASHER neck lengthening and we will forget this cartridge history too. Samuel Hall

With all that has been written & witnessed - If you were to build a competitive dasher from scratch - would you use Lapua 6br or Norma dasher brass? Picking one as an absolute.

I think that if you were to get some Norma brass and have a reamer made to size the brass properly it would last...

Sizing die would need to be made from fired brass.

How fast it will shoot will remain to be seen.
