Norma 223 Brass

Does anyone have any experience with the brass used in Norma's "TAC 223" ammo? I've never fired any factory ammo in my ARs, but at $18.50/50 I figured it would be a good deal in order to try out Norma brass for less than you can buy just the bare brass. Unfortunately, when it arrived tonight I now see that the primers and case necks are crimped. I'll shoot some this weekend so I can evaluate what I've got, but does anyone know if this is run on the same lines as their regular brass?

Yeah, I recently shot some Norma Tac .223 and found that the primers were crimped. This is something new because I've shot it before and I never had that crimpinig issue. Their regular brass should be okay.

Yes- it is headstamped Norma. I'll try to load some pictures when I get home from work. It's not the lake city style crimp that goes around the entire circumference; the "3-prong" style crimp is used on this ammo.

That is called a "staked crimp" It is easy to remove.

Were those $18 for 20 or $18 for 50 - the boxes looked like 20?

These were $18 per 50. They are packaged on nice little plastic stripper clips.

Old thread. Just checked mine that I bought in 20 round boxes for <$7 a box - also stake crimped Norma TAC 223

It's not the lake city style crimp that goes around the entire circumference; the "3-prong" style crimp is used on this ammo.

That is easy to remove - and Lake City uses that method - depending on year of manufacture.

I bought some of the last summer at "Big R", they had them for $5.99/20. From my bolt gun they are extremely accurate, I even shot a fly at 100 yards with them. The remainder I pulled the 55 grain FMJ bullets and loaded Sierra 53 grain MKs right back in the case.

I have found the tac223 to be a good 1 moa ammo. The cases are very consistent. I find about 90% are within 1 gn. Since i had a 1000 of these i have been culling to that 1 gn. The crimp is easy to remove. The big plus on this ammo is almost every case has less than .001 runout on the neck after the first firing. So reloads are very accurate. I did a test between 20 loaded exactly in lapua, norma, hornady and LC brass. Norma had second best 5 shot group.

I keep wondering if I should do any special brass prep for 'prone slow' for 300 yards reduced courses.

I'll see if I have the targets left. It wasn't like 2x group size. maybe like .5 for Lapua and .7 Hornady (worst).

It's funny this popped up. I was processing some bulk 223 brass today for a new pistol I'm trying out and I found some brass with an illegible head stamp, looked either not deep enough or over pressure, with staked primers. Boy they sized hard. Finally found some in the bag that I could read 223 Rem Norma on. I had been tossing them into the junk bin but I pulled them back out after seeing they were Norma. I'll post a pick when I can. I don't think they are gonna be worth reloading, just due to the sheer number of 223 cases people give me , but I'm going to investigate a bit more now knowing what they are.
