Noise Complaints ranges deal with

I think all ranges should be taking advantage of the Suppressor tax elimination. How? Get a program started that gives non suppessed owners a bargain way to get into suppressed shooting. A legit win/win as the neighbors benefit as well as the shooters ears.Another inexpensive and readily available method of quieting things is to buy prepacks of Owens Corning Rigid foam insulation. It is used for sound absorbtion. Sold in 2 or 4" thicknesses precut to 2' x 4' pieces. Glue or screw to walls and or ceilings. I would think noise behind and besides a shooter would be reduced by 1/2. Buy it from an insulation distributor not a bigbox store.

Pa has a law that saves OLD gun ranges from being shut down.

MSRP of $1,187.

Suppressors are an over priced joke.
Want quiet? Shoot ammo that is below the speed of sound.

Google- immediate damage can happen with brief exposure to sounds over 120-130 dB.

"Sorry" to all the supressure lovers. ;)

Sonic booms are 110 decibels. The bullet has long left the suppresser.

Shot at the Tenoroc Range located near Lakeland FL, yesterday. The firing line building has a heavy coating of rigid sprayed foam on the ceiling. Reports sounded more like thumps, than sharp cracks.

If your range is considering foam, having the surfaces spray foamed would be a lot faster and easier than putting panels in place by hand. Cost wise probably more expensive, but a whole lot less work.

And, since it's old guys who do a lot of the work on ranges, it would keep them off ladders and step-stools, and from having to hammer and/or run screw guns overhead. Just saying ...

Many firearm owners don't want to deal with the process of suppressor ownership, regardless if the tax stamp is free. Plus cans are not legal in all states. Federal legislation, if written correctly, would eliminate state and local government firearms regulations and force all SCOTUS judges to follow the constitution. Allowing suppressor purchasing on 4473 forms would have health/safety benefits and would be a positive community/range relationship action.

Don't be too quick to make unmandated changes or proclamations on noise suppression, it just might come back to haunt you. It's not the noise they want rid of, it's your guns. If you think otherwise your both naive and not smart. They will turn your good intentions into an admission of guilt. So if you do sound suppression in hopes it will be to your benefit, keep it a secret, let the results speak for themselves.

Isn’t it something. Some idiot buys a house near a gun range and then complains about the noise.
Lawsuits are being filed by liberals for a lot of reasons. Lead exposure, noise “pollution”, air pollution. They just want them gone.
The ONLY reasonable complaint is “bullets leaving the range”. A few idiot members can get a range shut down because of it.

Texas has The Safe Range Act. Texas is a very shooter friendly State.

Here in NY suppressors are not legal. Our club does everything possible to keep the neighbors happy but there are always a few who never stop. Last year, we dedicated the funds to install sound dampeners around and over the shooting benches. The material cost $15,000 and the labor was done by members. We still get complaints.

We also keep the line closed on Sundays before noon but I'm not sure that has helped with the complainers. Our private road was covered in roofing nails one morning. The reality is that the range is deep in a quarry and it was there long before most homes were built and certainly before the current occupants arrived.

Some neighbors claim that it sounds like a war zone and call in all kinds of complaints to the local PD. We are a small, private club with no range officers. Members run the line and control all activities. We started to pay close attention to what time and what days the complaints were coming. Ultimately, we determined that most of the complaints were at times that we loaned the range to the village or county PDs for training. Many of the PDs did have AR training and it was fairly intense when they put 15-20 guys on the line with ARs. The club decided to deny the use of the range to the police departments. I think it was a bad move, but it was done anyway.

I don't expect that we will ever be free of neighborhood complaints but we certainly try to be good neighbors ourselves. We do have a few community based events that are open to the public. There is never a charge for any event open to the public.

We had one guy pull into the range and go over to the trap and skeet area, complaining that a shotgunner had shot out his tire on his truck from about a third of a mile away.

Had another guy complain that someone had shot out the window on his house. We investigated. His house was over 8 miles away

I'd like to see a restriction on 'waste of oxygen' concerning the existence of people filing lawsuits over environment damage.

After all, their very existence is contributing to the problem they are complaining about and suing over.

Meanwhile, their 'champions of the cause' are traveling the globe to promote their message, engaging in completely hypocritical action.

Damn fools.

I completely disagree with this. The amount of pressure at the end of the muzzle isn't something you want built on a cheap budget. Especially if you're looking for full auto fire. $500-1000 for something that screws onto the end of the muzzle and works as well as they do is not over priced in my book. Especially when the materials are titanium.

Maybe...just not by someone in your range, or at least, not FROM your range. Your range was an obvious target.....

Ah. So we've identified yet another angle of attack.

Make it so expensive that the 'common folk' are priced completely out of participating.

Some folks from 'across the pond' probably know EXACTLY where this leads.
