Interesting. I expermented with the rifle and subsonics on a very limited basis when it was a .243 with mixed results. One load was actually fairly accurate at an average 990fps with a Nosler 80, but there were spikes to over 1100 and dips to around 900, which I believe was a function of the huge airspace inside the case. I would have hoped the 6BR's much smaller capacity might have smoothed things out a bit. It's not of any consequence, I just like to tinker and with under 100 rounds through this tube I'm not in any hurry start messing with it. About the time I'm thinking of rebarreling I'll probably revisit it though. Thanks for your time again :) -Rod-

Chris, could you give me data on .223, 26" using 60gr Bergers? HPFB's.
I actually have about 3 years of data on this rifle,it's just a stock Rem700VS with a Jewell Trigger but will shoot in the 2's and even the occasional 1) but I'm looking to cross check my results to Quickload's predictions. No hurry, obviously.

And a question for anyone...where does altitude come in to play? I spent nearly 30 years shooting above 6,000 feet, mostly over 7,500 and now that I'm at something under 1,000, I find I'm having trouble adjusting. I was out Tuesday, and my best group of the day awould have been 1/2" had I not pulled the 3rd shot. The rest were all 1". Not good. -Rod-

USAP:
Read thicker AIR, ya might want to revisit your speed/pressure for your favorite loading,I think ya need speed or more speed to get back to the 2's

Rod:

Finally had time to run the numbers for the .223Rem. Results are here:

AA2520 or IMR3031 look like good choices.

Let me know if you need more data.

Cheers,

Why thank you, Chris! I'll print it out, look it over and report back in the near future. I've never used any of the AA's but can tell you that 3031 has always been a very good powder for me for this cart.

Please check your PM's. -Rod-

EDIT: And a question: Are you using Filling/Loading ratio + Prop Burnt% when you tell me that 3031 and 2520 are good choices? It appears that way to me but just wanted to double check. -Rod-

Rod:

Yes, those are what I typically look at, especially the % burnt, along with velocity and pressure. I have found that the most accurate and consistent loads are those where the powder is 100% burnt before exit. The load density,% fill) is not all that important compared to completion of burn. In this case I was looking at % burnt and velocity as the two main discriminators. The pressures in this case were all OK so that didn't come into it much.

Cheers,
