No neck-turn 6BR

Obviously match results speak louder than do sacred cows, but what about to consistent neck tension and concentricity. Lapua brass is pretty good, but not good enough to eliminate those two problems without neck turning.

Any thoughts

JR,

I have been shooting No turn neck on 6BR and 6BRX for 5 years. I have one 6BR in 0.269' neck and can tell no difference in accuracy, at 600 yds. I have shot 2 IBS 600 records with a 6BRX 0.271 neck. One being the LG small group 0.749' it was topped last year by a 6BRX, 0.272' neck.

All I do to the brass is, sort by weight, chamfer necks, clean up primer pocket after firing, F/L size & bump after each firing.

The 269 neck will be my last chamber that I neck turn, I am thinking about having it opened to a 6BRX 0.272' neck.

There are too many guys shooting no turn neck, setting records, and winning matches, to say it is not the way to go.

It will not hurt to neck turn, it can't hurt, should make thing better. If it makes you feel better, you will shoot better.

One thing I do for my match ammo. I sort by run out on each loaded round, the best going for record rounds. The 0.749' group was my 3rd group of the match, It was the 3rd best, go figure. It make me feel better.

Time and time again, have compared my two .265' neck 6BRs with two other chamberings with .272' no-turn, and cannot tell any difference. I'm so convinced of the concept, just had a Pacific reamer cut with a .272' neck for my 6ppc, that with a switch-barrel set-up. Doubt I'll ever have another 'tight', fitted neck done. With the 6ppc I will take one very light cut to a wall thickness of .013', just enough to take out the usual one half of a thousandths variance, but am not even doing that with the 6BRs.:)
