The fix to that problem is to shoot more and shoot more often.amlevin said:As it stands I'll most likely "run out of years" before I run out of primers, or powder and bullets for that matter.

My informal testing last fall was just the small (Russian) primers along side 3 others that ought to remain available here unless something really dreadful happens![]()

German Salazar did something like that years ago but as he's closed the door to his Rifleman's Journal essays it's lost to us :-[
If someone's picked up where he left off I'd like to read it.
Last spring I was going to do something along those lines myself but when outdoor shooting season began I lost interest. Now with news the Russians aren't coming anymore it may be no longer of interest.
I did some load-test-over-chrono a couple months back with 6 small rifle primers, three of 'em the Russian flavors. Turned out the KVB-223 had greatest influence on SD & velocity but those have thin cups that tend to crater / pierce in some rifles. The others - KVB-223REM & KVB-556M, both referred to as 'magnum' - have tougher cups yet didn't appear to add significant velocity, much to my surprise.
Of the six tested Remington's 7-1/2 gave lowest SD & highest velocity but they can be hard to find sometimes.
