Russian Primers ???????

I have been using Russian KVB-7 primers in my 243 AI behind a load of 4831SC and it's my best load however I'm just about out of those primers and the guy I bought the original 2000 from doesn't have any more and won't be getting any more. Does anyone know where I may be able to get some more of these primers. I know Powder Valley has the wolf primers but I don't think they are the same.

They are the same primers, made at the same plant. I've tested all three versions that have been imported,Russian packaging, PMC packaging and Wolf packaging). No difference - still the best primer on the market.

gunamonth and German, thanks for that information. I know the ones that I have were manufactured by Murom apparatus in russia and since German, you say all three are made at the same place and the only difference is the packaging, you have made me a very happy camper. No other primer gives me the Es and Sd's like the KVB-7's. Thanks again guys.

John, German says the only difference between the Wolf std. & mag. primers is the cup thickness. I think the term "magnum" lost a little something in how the word is used in reference to primers in the translation from English to Russian.

I've had several misfires with the large primers; IIRC, all of them have occured while fireforming 250 Savage & 6.5x55 brass in Ackley Improved chambers, which is understandable. I've also had a few misfires with the SRMs - but in those cases, they were in a 6x47L. I've been told that it's very important to seat the Wolf primers to the bottom of the primer pockets firmly because the slightly larger dia. can mislead you into believing you're doing a good job, while in fact they're not bottoming out. I find it a little difficult to do this with my RCBS hand priming tool in some new brass, so have resorted to using a RCBS ram prime unit set up in a spare Partner press. The ram prime tool gives all the leverage you'll ever need, yet still gives a good feel for when you've bottomed a primer out.

has anyone used the wolf small rifle primer in a 6.5 x 47 ? is seating it hard? i use a K&m. also should i use the mag. or the just the small rifle?...jim

I use the Lee hand primer and I just seat the primers until they bottom out and feel right. I would use the Mag primer. It has the same mix as the regular I understand but the cup is thicker and thus will handle pressure better. I am using them in 223. Great primers and about half the price.
