Nikon Coolpix P5000

I just bought a new digital camera and thought I'd share my views. This Nikon has interchangeable lenses, shoots movies, has a rechargeable battery that I haven't recharged since I got it on June 14th, and is comparable with the Canon G7. The difference is that it is priced about $200 less than the Canon G7. I have a Canon A540, A550 and an old A20. For the money, this is one of the best cameras I have owned. It has a lot of the features of the bigger SLR's without the bulk. If you're in the market for a new camera, you should check this one out.

Skipper,

Thanks for the report on the p5000 Nikon. I like the idea of the rechargeble battery. That's my one gripe with the point and shoot Canons--they eat AAs like there's no tomorrow.

Ergonomically it looks pretty similar to the Canon A550, but the interchangeable lenses would be a big plus. FotoConnection.com has the P5000 for $289.00.

Circuit City still has the Canon A550 for $128.95. That's a great deal.

Moderator,

If you are spending too much on AA batteries for your camera try getting some rechargeable AA batteries and a good charger. Most camera stores sell them and if you buy the right brands they work great. The great benefit to "AA" cameras is that you can buy batteries anywhere when your batteries run down. Try that with the proprietary lithium in the Canon G7 or Nikon P5000. I have the P5000 and love the high quality of the camera and images although it is all but useless for action shots.

Do yourself a favor and buy at least one extra battery and a LARGE memory card,at least 1 gig)
