Self-Filming Long Range Hunting

Hi,

There are many lenses out there, anyone have any idea what size I'll need to capture film at 1000y with my DSLR camera.

Im doing this with a canon rebel or Nikon. Many lenses come in 18-55mm, 18-135mm, or 75-300mm? Is the 300 powerful enough for capturing 1000y footage of target shooting and hunting of bullet impact?

Thanks very much fellas
Joden

You won't see bullet impact with a 300mm lens. All you will see is the entire target mound with all the targets, and the surrounding trees etc etc. The March 80x scope shows your target frame i think. Your 75-300mm lens is only 4x magnification or there about. That gives you some ideas of the problem you have.

If it's any help, a brief search turned up these; (Note, to get magnification power, divide the lens focal length by 50, i.e. a 200 mm lens is 4x). So for 60X magnification, you'd need a 3000mm lens.

Here are a couple of examples
83X optical (about 2000mm or 40X) and 166X dynamic zoom with a $600 Cool Pix P900 camera. Note, the numbers quoted are not the magnification power.

FWIW: I've still got my Minolta SR-3 all manual 35mm SLR film camera (no built in light meter) from half a century ago that still works. No battery to corrode and no electronics to get damaged by water. My how times have changed
