Nightforce warranty?

For what it's worth (and I have had more than most) I have never had any issues with them. I only had one that needed sent in for warranty and they fixed it and had it back to me in under 3 weeks. Can't remember exactly how long it took but under 3 weeks.
It had a parallax issue and they did get it fixed.[/QUOTE

Really? The NF. comp. I got from you needed fixed........ Jim

... I'll say it on record, THE NF COMP DOES NOT HOLD ZERO...

Alex (or anyone), can you please detail what "DOES NOT HOLD ZERO" specifically means? Are you saying that if you zero the scope, dial up and over, and then go back to zero-zero that the POA has changed? I'm concerned and confused.

They finished mine the day before yesterday and yesterday, only 1 day later, they sent me the shipping notice and tracking information.

Bob

Sorry about that Jim. None of the ones I had gave me any issues at all. The parallax issue I had was an F1 atacr and was fixed by them.
I was simply stating I haven't had any issues myself that would warrant any real complaints.

When I worked at a gun store, upwards of 75% of the issues I saw with scopes was from user error in mounting or the mounting hardware. Sure, I had some scopes fail - usually the cheap ones, but it was most often the guy installing it that caused the problems.

I'm not going to say that NF will never break, but the 7 I currently have are working just great. I'm sure I'm doing myself a favor by using their hardware to mount them as often as the application allows.

I hope the guys with issues get them ironed out.

I can vouch that Jim's issues are legit, as I know he is as close to an expert as it gets.

I do agree that in most cases your assessment is correct though

When I say they dont hold zero I mean the reticle is moving between shots. Your groups are bigger than they should be. Your 6" of vertical at 1k could actually be 4" if your reticle wasnt moving between shots. I am not talking about tracking or return to zero. Just holding zero without touching the scope. My personal comp moved as well. It was not something easy to figure out and I didnt think I had a scope issue either. So when I hear guys say they never had an issue Im not suprised. How do you now your giving up 1-2" at 1k?

I need to find a scope that holds zero .
I always blamed other things .
Wind ,sun light , bad ES Driver error, high heat . Makes me wonder when NF can't fix the scope . LOL Larry

About 4 years ago i was at Berger Nationals shooting the long range portion of the match with my NF NXS 12 X 42 X 56. Shiraz was scoring me, on the first sighter shot of the second string of the day i hit very high and right on the target, almost off the target. I dialed several minutes down and left and fired again and damn near blew out the spotting disk from the previous shot......WTH?......Dialed several minutes down and left again and the shot hit in the bottom left corner of the target! After several more sighter shots dialing to get to center i finally managed to get in the 10/X ring. I shot the string holding off where i had to knowing the scope wouldn't track correctly. When i made it back home i called NF and sent the scope. Two weeks later i got the scope back and it looked brand spanking new, took it to the range and did a box test and it was perfect. Only thing i paid for was to ship it to them, they paid the return shipping. I've had 4 scopes from them and only had that 1 problem i just wrote about and it was taken care of pronto. That's my personal experience with the warranty. I'll continue to use their scopes........:)

I know buys have been complaining the Competition isn't holding zero. I have one on an 85 pound heavy gun with rails and it tracks great. When I push it back it is always on the patch. If it was moving, the crosshair would be moved off the patch or not centered. Matt

In this example, how do you eliminate bag issues? Thanks!

Oh... I think I see it now. Your procedure is

1) adjust POA to target. Fire 1 shot
2) plot position of reticle but do not adjust POA. Fire next shot.
3) Continue as needed.

Your point is that even though the apparent POA was shifting, the actual impact, as evidenced by the consistent bullet hole was unchanged. Do I have that right?

If so, what could be the underlying mechanical failure?

Thanks!

Theres 2 scopes mounted on the same rail. Both reticles aimed at the same point. If the scope you are testing doesnt point to the same place as the good scope after each shot then the reticle moved. The rifle is only there to provide recoil. You dont even need the rifle, but it makes it easier.

So in Toms picture both reticles were aimed at the black dot, after the first shot the reticle on the good scope is lined up with the dot again if the test scope is good it will also line up with the dot again, but in this case it moved left about 1/4" on the first shot. Neither scope is touched during the test.

I am always amazed at how defensive people can get when someone points out something negative about a product that they themselves use. There is always the "mine works fine" which is supposed to somehow mean that they all work fine. AW has went out of his way here to point out that NF has an issue with this scope that they are not addressing correctly for the benefit of us all. He could have very easily just kept this to himself and let it go but he didn't. He has repeatedly mentioned he likes and uses other NF scopes but somehow this is not good enough for some. What does he have to gain by criticizing NF??? Nothing and as someone who has customers on this site he has a lot more to lose than anyone else. I for one am thankful he posted this info as he has saved me a big headache and lots of $$$. Lets hope NF steps up and addresses this properly.

Thanks. Its nothing personal, I owned one as well. But if we are serious about shooting our best, and if Im serious about building the best then we cant fall in love with anything. You have to go with what ever will help you shoot your best. Trust me, Im not in this for the money. If that was the case Id go back to turning wrenches ;)

Been an owner and a fan of NF scopes for 16-years. The BR and NXS models have been battle/match proven work horses for many years. Except for the more rare instance here and there, like with the OP's, there still on par and models that I so often recommended.

The repeated issue occurring and being reported here is with the newer Comp model (15 - 55 x 52). Way to many having issues with them to not warrant better customer relations from NF. They need to take better responsibility and face up more openly that there is issues and/or possibility of issues with the Comp model.

While its sad to hear of these issues with the Comp model, its even sadder to hear that NF is giving customers the run-around. Some of who are friends of mine, which does not sit well with me either, and is giving NF a black & blue eye publicly by there lack of customer relations and/or admittance of the issues.

Having had four 15-55 comps. first one was 2013 and the eye box was very critical to the point of selling it after one match. Numbers 2, 3 and four displayed the same thing they would not hold point of aim, never would repeat a group of the same size at 100 yrds. After countless barrels and a ton of Spencer bullets and two years of testing the guy at NF. service tells me it is the rings, he ask what kind and I told him Burris Signature and he told me that is the problem. Funny I said, With a March on there in the same rings it will shoot small and with a NXS on there it set 5 records. They talk down to you like you are a total idiot.
So you would ask why mess with the NF. if the March shoots well, The March is dark and the eye box is critical and with my eyes I can't make them works good as the NF. in that respect. I tried very hard to make the NF. comp work and they all failed. Very small amounts of impact shift, a NXS they are not. I have a ton of money wrapped up and two years of my life trying to get them to work and finally gave up and sold all my long range stuff, over all this and my health. I will say this, I had a new one in the box I never opened it just sold it. As good as they were at one time, and as solid as the NXS was, they turned the corner and I will never go there again.... Recently had some warranty work done on an ATACR F1 Illuminated H59 model. The illumination had an issue but still worked so I called them and Dylan was a pleasure to deal with. In no time my optic was received, fixed with new components and sent back in less than 2 weeks. They also added an extra accessory that I needed at no charge.
I am impressed with NightForce and will remain loyal to them because of this.
