Nightforce reticle swap cost .... HOLLY!

Regarding websites, one of my biggest "beefs" as it were, with most scope manufacturers is not being able to find the reticle subtensions w/o having a 7th degree black belt in Google-fu. As scope web sites go Vortex is about the best out there.

I can let ya feel a little better. I was just down in Australia, and struck up a conversation with a guy about guns. He said that to own a hand gun was "expensive". He said that by the time you get through lisencing, fees, training and such, it costs about $15,000. By the way, I smoke, and went to pick up a pack. Marlboros cost $39 a pack. Their government in action.

Labor intensive maybe but $375 worth of labor? If 2 years ago a Swap cost $200 where did the $175 come from ... Glass Quality? ... Your swapping, its not like your getting your reticle back so where is my core charge?

The scope may end up for sale so Keep a look out and a 2014 go on order.

Called today to find out the cost for a reticle swap ... Now i'm not sure the labor involved but my god the price is insane ...

Anyone want to swap a Mint 2013 Nightforce Competition CTR-1 for my Mint 2013 DDR? We will both save $400

Curious did the 2013 Competition ever come with any of the newer reticules? CTR-2, DDR-2 or FTR-1

It's very labor intensive for Nightforce to change out a reticle. The reticle is probably one of the single most expensive pieces in a riflescope. The glass elements as a whole comprise a huge portion of the total cost and the reticle out of the that bunch is a big percentage due to the technology it takes to create such fine line detail to the level that Nightforce expects.

Nightforce doesn't make any money on the reticle swaps. A lower quality glass in a scope would be cheaper to change out. The higher quality the more expensive the cost. You get what you pay for.

I would either pay the money or sell your scope and get a scope with the reticle you want. I hope that helps.

Does anyone know how many hours it takes to swap that part? Even if it was 8 hrs it is more than $46.00 an hour.

Parts and labor....... your forgetting the part (etched glass lens).

That would be a valid point but they do keep your old reticle. So if the charge was for the new reticle they get a a free reticle to resell.

I'm not saying it doesn't cost them $375, it could, but based on other major players the pricing really doesn't seem to line up. I'm all about getting what you pay for, I'm just very curious what one is paying for in this instance.

NF figures that if you're strong enough for their scope purchase......you'll dig deep again to change the reticule out!! ;D

It's really no big deal. Sell the scope and buy the one you want. Cheaper because great products HOLD THEIR VALUE.

I think it's obvious that they don't want to fool with reticle swaps...and if they do it, they'll be well compensated for their trouble. As others have said, sell it and buy the one you want.

Not in this case. The 2013 model was $2,232 originally and when the 2014 was introduced the "value" dropped to $1,600. That's roughly 30% depreciation in one year. Worse than new cars.

Nightforce, in my opinion, really screwed their loyal customers over on this deal. The latest, greatest new scope but there are only two reticles available, DDR and CTR, and each has its own set of problems. A year later they get it closer to right, and "we can change the reticle for $200 but not yet because we don't have spare parts". When they finally get around to it it's $400 and that doesn't include zero-stop or HS turrets.

I bought four 2013's back then and this winter sold them and bought four 2014's with CTR-2's. That cost me $2,668 in loss on the four 2013's plus $9,408 for the new 2014's. It's not cheap to do business with the NightForce folks and I would think they could be a little more accommodating to those who tried to use their ill conceived 2013 model.

I'd gladly to go elsewhere but I lost even more money on the two March scopes I owned. Unfortunately the old adage "you don't have to be good to be the best" is alive and well in the scope business.

Amen! Preach on brother Dave .. LOL

Little perspective for you all...I inquired today about putting a Horus H59 in one of my S&B PMII's .... $900!

That is because Horus charges a minimum $450 licensing fee for their reticle deigns. Take that off and it's pretty comparable.

Yes, license fee is $350... so $550

Absolutely insane ... you can keep the Horus H59, I'll stick with the target dot, i may have a a soda can i can bring back, should have me covered.

Any one on here from Night-force care to explain the $175 price bump ... We all know the bean counters recommended it to push new scopes.

I'll shoot the DDR for this season and see wouldn't want to upgrade reticle or scope for a new one to come out in 2015.

I'm not sure where "varmit" comes from but auto correct is constantly trying to tell me to use reticule instead of reticle.

ret·i·cule
ˈretiˌkyo͞ol/
noun
noun: reticule; plural noun: reticules

1.
historical
a woman's small handbag, originally netted and typically having a drawstring and decorated with embroidery or beading.
2.
variant spelling of reticle.

Holly Madison. "Dated" Hugh Heffner. Had a baby she named Rainbow Aurora. Pic below. She claims they're real, not store bought.

If the spelling police collected a dime any time someone used VARMIT or RETICULE or mixed up SALE and SELL this site would be a goldmine.
