Anyone want to swap a Mint 2013 Nightforce Competition CTR-1 for my Mint 2013 DDR? We will both save $400
Curious did the 2013 Competition ever come with any of the newer reticules? CTR-2, DDR-2 or FTR-1
It's very labor intensive for Nightforce to change out a reticle. The reticle is probably one of the single most expensive pieces in a riflescope. The glass elements as a whole comprise a huge portion of the total cost and the reticle out of the that bunch is a big percentage due to the technology it takes to create such fine line detail to the level that Nightforce expects.
Nightforce doesn't make any money on the reticle swaps. A lower quality glass in a scope would be cheaper to change out. The higher quality the more expensive the cost. You get what you pay for.
I would either pay the money or sell your scope and get a scope with the reticle you want. I hope that helps.

Parts and labor....... your forgetting the part (etched glass lens).
Cheaper because great products HOLD THEIR VALUE.

Not in this case. The 2013 model was $2,232 originally and when the 2014 was introduced the "value" dropped to $1,600. That's roughly 30% depreciation in one year. Worse than new cars.
Nightforce, in my opinion, really screwed their loyal customers over on this deal. The latest, greatest new scope but there are only two reticles available, DDR and CTR, and each has its own set of problems. A year later they get it closer to right, and "we can change the reticle for $200 but not yet because we don't have spare parts". When they finally get around to it it's $400 and that doesn't include zero-stop or HS turrets.
I bought four 2013's back then and this winter sold them and bought four 2014's with CTR-2's. That cost me $2,668 in loss on the four 2013's plus $9,408 for the new 2014's. It's not cheap to do business with the NightForce folks and I would think they could be a little more accommodating to those who tried to use their ill conceived 2013 model.
I'd gladly to go elsewhere but I lost even more money on the two March scopes I owned. Unfortunately the old adage "you don't have to be good to be the best" is alive and well in the scope business.

That is because Horus charges a minimum $450 licensing fee for their reticle deigns. Take that off and it's pretty comparable.

If the spelling police collected a dime any time someone used VARMIT or RETICULE or mixed up SALE and SELL this site would be a goldmine.
