NightForce reticle recommendation, please

I think I have narrowed it down to either the NP-R1 or the MLR. Can someone help me decide which will be best for my application?

The scope will be a 12-42x56 NXS, second focal plane. It's going on a REM 700 SPS.

I currently have a S&B PMII 3-12x50 FFP with the GEN II Mildot.

My primary reason for buying this scope is that I want a very fine reticule at long range for finite load development. The one I have now is making judging my loads a little difficult because the reticule gets bigger as I zoom in.

At this point I'm planning on swapping the S&B and NXS back and forth. I'm also considering buying a S&B PMII 5-25x56 later as the primary scope for this rifle and putting the 3-12x50 on a M1A I built.

My 3-12x50 is MIL/MIL so I'm leaning towards the MLR but since this is mostly for load development only I could go NP-R1.

EDIT: Well this could be solved already. I assumed I could get MIL/MIL turrets but from what I have found they are all MOA. I don't want conflicting calibrations.

Thanks

Just my opinon but really look at the NP-2DD for load development. The ones you mention cover up the target too much for me. With the NP-2DD you can use the center dot for close targets, 100-300yds and use the lower dot for 400-1000yds. Also the layout leads the eye to the center of the target. Love mine and alot of bench guys use it.....Just a thought.

Thanks. Do you know how big the dot is?

At work right now and can not get into NF's web page. If you can't find it I have it in my manuels and will put it in in the morning when I get home. I work 4 0n 4 off 7pm to 7am

Didn't think I could get in it. Found it...the center one is .1875 and the bottom is .125 M.O.A. at 22pwr

If your plan is to buy a S&B after load work, I'd just start with that and skip the NF. 25X is plenty to do load development on your SPS, which I assume is a 308. Also, I don't see the need for matching MIL/MIL on a scope to be used only for punching paper at know distances.

Hi Mate
I would recommend the NP-2DD as the others cover the target too much and the advantage of the NP-2Dd is that you have the outer T fine lines and the illuminated small dot in the centre. I and both of my Sons have used this scope very successfully out to a 1000YDS on a .243 Ackley Improved, you can also use this very successfully on varmints out to such ranges too, and I have to agree with Gregg that a lot of bench rest guys also swear by the scope and the NP-2DD reticle! that is of course my opinion.

Regards
Steve

It seems to me that the NP-2DD is easier to pick up than any of the other reticules when your in a hurry.............

Thanks

So I did in fact go a different way:

Schmidt Bender PMII 12-50x56 P P4 Fine 1/4 CM MT CW SFP

I wanted finer adjustments and my mind is geared in mils. I factored in the need to buy new rings and a 30mm lapping kit. After that the S&B was only about $600 more than the NightForce. Bigger tube more power etc.,

Thanks for everyone's input.
