Nightforce for prairie dog

I'm looking to buy a Nightforce for prairie doggin.
I currently use a Leupold VX III 6.5-25 with target dot.. on multiple rifles..
Any suggestions on a model / style?

shv 4 to 14 will do you fine and it i still a NF.

A 3.5x15 or 5.5x25 NSX would be plenty but if you want some extra resolution the 5x25 ATACR is really nice and a definite step up from the NSX.

I have the same Leuplod scope as yours on two of my prairie dog guns, a 223 and a 22-250. I also use a target dot. It is a great scope but I believe the Nightforce is a step up.

For my 6BR gun I used a Nightforce NXS 8-32 with a NP 2DD dot reticle. I much prefer the dot, and range each shot and use the ballistics program for clicks.

As for ranges, most in the 150 to 400 yard range, but I have hit a confirmed at 588 yards, and unconfirmed at 700 + yards. With our group of shooters, if you can't produce the body, it isn't a hit.

never go above 14 power.. there is always too much mirage.
I'll check out the NXS.

Have you considered the Trijicons? I have Nightforce but I like the Trijicon accupoint 5-20, a little lighter than the NXS.

I have not looked at Trijicon.. nothing against Trijicon.. just haven't looked..
I am also currently in the market for a thermal. I'm down to Pulsar XP50 and Trijicon IRMK2 35 or IRMK3....

I do most of my prairie dog shooting in South Dakota, and there is always a lot of wind, so mirage is seldom a problem.

I use the max power (32x) almost all the time. I spot the dogs with my binoculars, and may reduce the scope power to find them, but I shoot at max power. A handle on the power ring is VERY helpful.

I hunt sage rats, which are about half the size of a prairie dog, and I've found more power never hurts at the distance you describe. I use 6-24x, 8-32x, 15-55x (Nightforce) and 10-50x. I scan with binos and might turn the scope power down to get the rat into field of view, but I like head shots, so I turn the power up often to max once I find the rat.
