nightforce 12-42x56

Hi
Have just received my new Nightforce 12-42X56,and was a bit surprised to see that the checked sticker on the tube was dated 2004.Have I been sold an outdated model or is this still the current model? Anybody out there know?

I don't think Nightforce has made any changes to the scope for quite some time. I guess they feel if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I've called a couple of times to ask/suggest that they offer the NXS style target knobs on the BR model with 1/8 min clicks as an option. In answer to my query they say they don't plan on doing so. Perhaps if others called and suggested the same thing it would help.
Hell, I'd pay the price to have them retrofit my scopes for the target knobs.

Aleast it has a date. Buy a Leupold, and it could be 10yrs old. You'll never know..till you get it and find some difference from your bud's, then call the factory with the numbers.

I had this happen with a Browning A-bolt I bought -brand new -retail. Turned out to be a decade old, less many revisions, and overpriced given it's age. Found this out when I bought a new stock for it,from browning) and it didn't fit. And they no longer supported that series in model.

I'd like to see date in the model number, and a record of revisions for reference at their website.

Afterall, we wouldn't buy a car without knowing it's date. But we buy em without a clue as to revisions made, or problems fixed or neglected, existing)from year to year.

Not to worry they havent changed anything. I bought an old varmint used and sent it to NF to be rebuilt. No problems at all. Great scopes I have 5!!

The letter at the end of the serial number on Leupold scopes is the year of manufacture. i.e. M = 2004, N = 2005.
If the letter is before the serial number it's prior to 1992,Z).

After speaking to the supplier,I was told that the earlier scopes had a better inspection protocol, and that earlier was therefore better.Comments please.

Dont worry about the scope you have one of the best scopes on the market. I could care less if one was built was week or 5 years ago. I bought my scopes in 2003,2005,2006 and one is older and I dont know the age. I cant see any difference in the optical quality. I have a 12-42 myself. I used my of long range varmint hunts and in benchrest shoots.
