I shoot smallbore prone at 50 and 100 yd and I have been using Leupold 1" tube scopes my whole life, currently a BR-36. I was at a match this weekend on a rainy day, and had trouble seeing the crosshairs against the black bull due to low light.
Maybe it's time for a better scope? I like the Nightforce Competition 15-55x52 for a few reasons. It's lighter than the NF Benchrest (I tried one and it's too heavy for a 1600 match), it has a bigger tube and objective than my Leupold to get more light in, it is variable so I can change the magnification for different distances/conditions, and I know the glass is very high quality.
My only issue with the Nightforce Comp. is the offered reticles are very, very thin. I'm thinking I will have the exact same issue seeing them against the black bull as I had with my BR-36. Did Nightforce ever offer a bolder reticle in the Comp? I like their Mil-Dot reticle, but I don't think they offer that at all anymore. Maybe a bolder crosshairs, preferably with a dot?
