Next coyote rifle. Rebarrel time

I do have 22-250 brass I could use but I know it’s hard to find now so I guess you could say don’t want to use it. If I had to choose between a 22creedmoor and the ol trusty 22-250 it would be the 22 creedmoor just for brass availability alone. Bradley has mentioned it numerous times on here and he’s right.

The 22 Creedmoor 8 twist is by far the popular coyote barrel I chamber. Probably one in 3 barrels of my whole business is 22 Creedmoor.

So true!!! I didn't think about availability of cases!!!
But I have 500 bright and shiny REM Nickel plated 22-250 new UNPRIMED cases. A couple hundred once fired Win brass!!! I think I could burn a couple of faster twist barrels with that much brass!!!

I have a savage model 10 in 22-250 who’s near the end of its life. Currently it’s sitting scopeless in the safe waiting on a cartridge decision. This will be a dedicated night rifle with a thermal off a tripod with shots ranging anywhere from 50 ? to let’s say 400 absolute max.
I have used ar15s a in 223 and 6.5 grendel, as well as the 22-250 which is preferred and it’s a bolt rifle. I’m looking for a little over kill to hopefully help take up the slack from a not so perfect shot, I have been hunting them for 15 years and I know it’s gonna happen as well as how much of a will to live they have. I don’t care about saving pelts but I do love to be able to find them where they was shot or a very short walk from it.
I’m studying on these rounds as a chambered prefit, 22” varmint contour

1. 243 win with 70-80gr bullets
2. Short throated 6 creed with 70-80gr
3. 22 creedmoor again with 70-80gr
4. Any xc variant as I have dies 22 or 6

Bullet availability needs to be considered as well as Brass availability, shouldn’t be a problem with those chamberings. Anything I’m missing or should be thought of ?
I love my 6BRX. May be hard now to get Lapua brass. I have an unopened box I probably will never use. I am getting up in age. Back surgery. Shoots 60 gr bullets at 3700 fps. Accurate, good barrel life. My 6BR has 4200 shots on it. Still accurate. 60 gr bullets at 3580 fps. Never had a Creedmore sounds like a good accurate round. Th 6 CM probably has better barrel life. The 243 Win and 6XC are bigger than you need and barrel burners.

Can’t find squat on the shelf James didn’t have anything 10 twist. I can’t help but wonder if a 12 will without a shadow of a doubt work with 70s and 80s Urban only offers 8 or 12
Back on post #12, Clancy recommended a 12tw, he's not wrong. I have shot coyotes out to 300+ yds with a 6xc with both 10 and 12tw barrels with 70gr NBT, 75Vmax, 80gr Sierra blitz bullets. JME, but the 12tw works just fine. No question about it in my experience with them. And lastly, say as you want there isn't a hoot's worth of difference between a 6cm and a 6xc when it comes to a hunting rifle. I just happened to get acquainted with the 6 XC back in 2006 and have stuck with it since it is so easy for me to load for. It comes down to load development, component selection, and availability of components. So choose what works for you.

In full disclosure, my coyote shooting has all been daylight, I've shot WAY more coyotes with a 220 Swift than I have with the 6mm offerings. Both work great.... the 6's seem to put em down with a bit more authority IMHO. So if you choose a 22cm or 22xc I'm sure you'll be fine too. JME FWIW. WD

Thank you for that. I just assumed a 12 was on the fence. I do not want to be on the fence

Again, this is a dedicated night gun, speed wins the night wars, BC be damned.
Yeah,. If shooting Yotes at 400 yards Max. He doesn't "Need" an 8 Twist for, sure !
Guilty as Charged for NOT reading,.. post 1
BUT, an 87 gr Berger or V-Max @ 3,200 fps from, a 6 XC, 10 Twist, would be,.. NICE and,.. "Final" on Yotes.
70 grain NBT's at, 3500 fps would work, real Well, also

I know your knowledgeable, what speeds could be achievable in say a 22” 6xc with the 70gr bullets. A close guess would be fine. I run 108 in a 26” at 3040

3500 fps pretty easily I would say...

A 6xc 50 fb in 12 twist with 70 TNT or 80 Sierra Blitz would be my personal choice if I were going to make one for myself in 6mm.

That’s what’s it’s gonna be. Develop a good load, with available bullets and rain down hell on them. Any so called advantage a xc would have over a 243 ?

I've shot both of those bullets on prairie dogs and they are both outstanding as far as hitting very hard. They're also available and relatively inexpensive and that's why they would be my first choice for doing what you're talking about doing.

In the dark, it’s about speed and a good bullet. I’m not good enough standing with a 223 or grendel
I started Predator hunting in 1972 and started with a 22-250 and shot it for many years. About 1999 I went to a 220 Swift and 52 gr Hornady bthp pushing them about 3900 fps. Then in 2020 I had a 22-6MM AI with a Krieger 1 - 15 twist and shooting Sierra 50 gr Blitzking at just over 4300 fps without pushing it. I hold on fur out to 450 yds. I also have a 6MM AI witn a Brux 1 - 13 twist shooting Sierra 55 gr Blitzking at 4200 fps. Is it a barrel burner. Yup it is., and yes it will. And when the barrel is shot out I will have another one Machined and chambered. I can have any caliber built that I want. If there is another caliber that will shoot 50 or 55 gr over 4400 fps I will have it built. Them 50 and 55 gr Blitzking are truly Coyote killing bullets. Anything out there pushing 50 or 55 gr over 4400?

I have a 6 BRX with a Brux 1 - 8 twist and shoot Sierra 107 gr. It maybe the most accurate rifle I have. But I think I can throw a rock faster then it.

I had a swift. 700 vssf . It would sling 52 smk at 4025 ! Never took it hunting here though

22 creed w 69tmk
You can hold on the yote out to 350
I use a 22-250 ackley (same thing) and it’s crazy flat and doesn’t drift enough to matter
22 creed will feed better than an ackley

These new bullets with the much higher BC numbers don't need all that muzzle velocity to actually hit harder downrange because the bullet slows down so much slower.

No need to burn up barrels to hit hard and hit more often.

My “Dog Gun” is a Tikka T3 chambered for 6BR, shoots those 103s and up just fine and capable of those 600 yd + shots…
So far none have run off and a well placed shot keeps those “Spinners” away…
Lots of barrel life, way ahead of a .243, less powder and easy to tune a load for whatever bullet you decide to shoot.
