Next coyote rifle. Rebarrel time

I have a savage model 10 in 22-250 who’s near the end of its life. Currently it’s sitting scopeless in the safe waiting on a cartridge decision. This will be a dedicated night rifle with a thermal off a tripod with shots ranging anywhere from 50 ? to let’s say 400 absolute max.
I have used ar15s a in 223 and 6.5 grendel, as well as the 22-250 which is preferred and it’s a bolt rifle. I’m looking for a little over kill to hopefully help take up the slack from a not so perfect shot, I have been hunting them for 15 years and I know it’s gonna happen as well as how much of a will to live they have. I don’t care about saving pelts but I do love to be able to find them where they was shot or a very short walk from it.
I’m studying on these rounds as a chambered prefit, 22” varmint contour

1. 243 win with 70-80gr bullets
2. Short throated 6 creed with 70-80gr
3. 22 creedmoor again with 70-80gr
4. Any xc variant as I have dies 22 or 6

Bullet availability needs to be considered as well as Brass availability, shouldn’t be a problem with those chamberings. Anything I’m missing or should be thought of ?

I'd keep it simple ... 243Win and 55gr Nolser BTs or Varmageddons or BlitzKings. 70gr if you prefer.
Yep I do prefer. I just wonder about where they do sit in the neck. I have had doughnuts form in 2 of my rifles it is not fun when it happens

My opinion is that bullet selection is more important than cartridge selection when it comes to drt. I would focus the build around the bullet. I would recommend a soft point or all copper expanding bullet like barnes to achieve your goal. They'll penetrate deeper with more hydraulic shock.

for example the 65gn Sierra game king has a decent BC of .303 and would be devastating in a hot rod 22 cal like the 22creed

My last 4 builds have all been slow twists for night time action.

3 of them are AR's,

12" twist 20" 22 DTI with 52 Bergers at 3550

10" twist 20" 6x6.8 SPC, 70 Ballistic Tips at 3270 ( 12" would have been fine)

12" twist 20" 223 with a 223 Rem chamber (.025" freebore) 53 Vmax at upper 33's

Bolt gun in an 18" 22x47 Lapua, 12" twist, zero freebore, 52 Bergers at 3800

Any of those you're contemplating would work dandy with shorter freebore & lighter bullets

most people that will advice you don't kill many coyotes . they are gun guys. most kotes
are kill around 200yds or less .if you at night you need flat shooting cartridge Lighter bullets.
6mm give you better chance of killing kotes if they hang up in a brush and there hind quarter
are out. shoot them they will be there you walk to them .I've shot hundreds of coyotes and have
been round thousands . my vote goes to the 6 creed and a 70gr. Noslen. It will play beautiful music.

A medium sized 6mm with a bullet between 68 and 80 grains.

12 twist barrel, short freebore.

GT, 47, XC or I shoot a BR myself.

12 twist barrel.

I’d get a 12 twist barrel, and a short freebore. No more than .104 , preferably .050.

May I recommend a 12 twist barrel?

6 Creed or 243Win with 80gr ELD-VTs. It will hit harder than the 22s. The only thing I dislike about the 243 is trimming brass, which is why I shoot a 243AI.

I have pondered the 6gt a few times. I don’t know if a source where I can just buy a prefit with different freebores in stock. I know of northland shooters who’s awesome to deal with but not many others. Not been in the replacing barrel game long enough to learn where the goodies are

Honest question, I assumed a 12 twist would be on the fence for say a 75 vmax. But no problem for sure you say ?

I don’t shoot hornady bullets at all. I have in the past, including the 65, 75 and 87 vmax. No more.

I’d suggest you don’t either.

243 win and 75 vmax has been working great for me. They’re dead before they hit the ground. I’m running them about 3575 out of an 8 twist
