Newbies out of control!

That's "sub-short range", even for AR shooters that are only caring if something noisy comes out of the hole in the end.

I was at a local outdoor range (a real dump) where some young punks showed up that got money way too easily and at too young of an age. They were standing on top of the benches at (25 yards?), more than one or two at a time, "shooting" ARs and AKs, dumping their mags (not allowed there), yelling "get the Bitch" and other similar phrases.

Maybe trying to reenact a movie or video game.

At the public ranges I've been at, they would have been told to leave and not come back.

The worst one I witnessed lately, was at the local outdoor shooting range...live fire was going on along the line, and I was one of the many shooters firing down range...when a guest took off walking down range to check his target! Way off to my right , He made it at least 20 maybe 30 yds down range, while the rest of us were firing and concentrating on our 100 yd - 200 yd targets, I heard ..Woha! Whoa! Whoa! Bring Yelled in a panic...I couldn't believe it! Who walks infront of a line of live fire rifles? Breaking the Most Serious Basic Safety rule! We all ceased fire of course...when he got back to the line, he was met by a couple of angry members, and the acting range boss, about his behavior, and range rules that govern safety.
Probably embarrassing the person who invited him as a guest.
I had never seen that before...in a lifetime of shooting.

I have only been reloading since around 2011 and have learned so much in this time frame. When i first started a buddy of mine got me into it. I thought he knew way more than what he does. Since then i have learned that he just knew how to mass produce reload, nothing more. Not too long ago he picked up a rifle with no caliber markings on it. He does not want to pay a smith to cast the chamber to figure out what cartridge it is. Instead he has been getting some brass and trying to figure out what it is by what fits. I have tried to talk since into him but its not working. I asked do you really wanna play with 50-60k psi by ur face and hands. It has not clicked in his head yet. Im just waiting to see what happens if he has enough balls to actually load something and pull the trigger. Needless to say i will not be there at that time. To me this is stupidity that cant be understood

I saw that happen once. Unreal.

I told the owner upon leaving. Their behavior was against his rules. He was not going to go back there. He said something about taking it up with them upon their exit, but I have no way of knowing if he ever did anything.

I hope that no one is near him!

Last fall, I set a friend up to reload pistol. All he shoots is 9mm. I gave him a press, powder thrower, scale, dies and some other stuff, including 1k empty tumbled cases and a brick of primers. He bought bullets and a good micrometer. I sat him down for a day of tutoring on loading for pistol. He got it and calls me if he has any questions. Let’s call him Dave. So far, so good......until today!
Dave calls me and starts asking me how to load 308. He has a friend that wanted to start reloading and Dave offered to help. The two of them are sitting in Daves basement trying to figure out how to set up the sizing die in the Rock Chucker I gave him. Dave says” Hank brought everything! Powder, primers, empty cases and bullets! We just need a little help.” Trying to be cordial, I try to help but the hairs on the back of my neck start to tickle. I give a ten minute explanation about how to set up a die, pushing the shoulder back 2 thou, blah blah. I’m on speaker so they both can hear. Hank says “That’s not what the booklet says.”
I ask “Who made the die?”
Hank: “Lee. It says in the book that it should be screwed in more than you said so you can feel the collet click.”
I ask “Is it a Lee neck sizing die?”
Hank”Yes”
Oh Lord, I think. I ask “ What are you loading for?”
Hank “I have four semi autos in 308.”
I say “You can’t use that die for semi autos. Do you have a full length sizing die?”
Hank “Yes”
I say “ Use that. Do you have any guages that measure the shoulder?”
Hank “What’s that?”
I say “ Read thru the beginning of your reloading manual. It should explain a lot.”
Hank “I don’t have a manual.”
I ask “Where did you get your load data?”
Hank “Off the internet.”
Dave chimes in “ Will this die work on steel cases?”
I sit down, calm myself for a moment and then give them both barrels in a five minute lecture about the dangers involved in what they’re doing, buying the stuff they need, reading as much as they can and don’t try to reload a fu$$ing thing until I get back to Delaware! I think I got thru to them?!!? They said “OK, well ...thanks.”
Scared the crap out of me.
As soon as they said “ok, well thanks,” they hung up and said “who else can we call?”

Nobody was shooting on his lane.
Same type of thing except with an RSO.

At a 300 yard line, there were several people shooting.
The RSO starts walking down the far left side [to do some work in the pits]. Someone calls out 'Cease fire!'. The RSO says 'Nah, it's ok, I'm far enough out of the line of fire - just keep on shooting'.

Of course, no one did and that RSO is no longer a member.

I had never seen that before...in a lifetime of shooting.

That's happened at the range I shoot at several times (well a couple or three times I've seen, and RSO's telling me of others.) Also had a guy duck under the pistol bench and crawl out several feet in front to retrieve a dropped 9mm round (guess he's not certified to use a broom...)

Kind of inline with something I heard 3 or 4 times during the pandemic (when all the new gun owners were showing up.) The outdoor pistol range uses a 2'x3' cardboard backer, onto which a paper B8 target is taped. If there's just a few previously shot targets, a new one is taped over them. Anyway, the new shooters would come out of the office onto the range, and I'd hear "Hey, there's more than one target on here." "Yeah they do that so you shoot this one then peel it off and have a clean target to shoot at."

Better watch out, she’s going to be a catch in 10 or so years especially if she knows how to reload!
She’s gonna haul deer uphill for me in Wv . This kids tough. She wrestles with her iron worker dad , and rough! Still takes ballet and helps her mom(my daughter) teach classes. I just hope the boy isn’t too intimidated
