Newbie Reloader Needs Help … 223 Rem Brass Split In Half

I’ve been reloading for one year. Today at the range I had something strange happen. After firing my 223 Rem (CVA Cascade SB), when I pulled the bolt back the case ejected in two (2) parts. The case parted around the middle. The photo shows the parting of the brass In the middle. BTW, I scored a X with this shot. This is the second time this week this has happened. The full length case shows a ring around the middle of the brass. I believe both have been fired 5 times. These are Starline brass, CCI400 primers, Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT, CFE223 26.0gr. Please help me figure out what’s going on. Thanks, KeithView attachment 1535564
Called case separation, you are over sizing the brass when you resize the fired brass, check fired case before resizing with a case Headspace Comparator, you only need to bump the shoulder back about ,002-.003.

Bumping the shoulder back too much can cause it but don’t jump to conclusions. I had the same happen to me. I went over my measurements and process 100 times trying to find out what happened. Turned out I was running my loads warm and I believe faulty brass. Starline to be exact. I’ll post my post on the situation

I'm keeping an eye on mine.
200 pieces. I think I'll pull 20 random cases when I get caught up around here and torture test them.

Everyone is correct, but more of just a trait with Starline 223/556 brass. I just count on 4 loads (match loads) before the 5th load is used for foulers/plinkers before the batch gets discarded. Starline is good brass and for the price, I’m not mad at getting 5 loads. You can get more loads from them if not loading on warm side ( I have some with 8 and no annealing), but also risk that type of separation and some loose primer pockets.
