newbie neck turning.

HELP!
im wanting to start turning necks on my cases.im currentley shooting a tact 20/ LAPUA brass, 17 REM/REM brass and have on order a 17 fireball /REM 221 brass. iv been looking at maybe starting with the SINCLAIR NT-1000 as it seems fairly basic for my needs.i only want to clean up my brass i use REDDING bushing dies for my reloads.maybe if this is the way to start ill invest in some more advanced tools later.
any advice would be taken on board.:thumb:
thanks garyw

garyw: I started out with the Sinclair NT-1000. It's a very basic tool, and setting the cutting thickness is "trial and error", and not repeatable. I ruined my share of Lapua brass by taking off more than I wanted. Recently bought the K&M outside neck turner, and as claimed, you can control cutting depth to within .0001". Sinclair does offer cutters now with the dial indicator attachment, at an additional cost over the basic NT-1000. If you have made up your mind, and want the Sinclair NT-1000, I'll sell you mine, cheap! fdshuster@hotmail.com

Gary, FD is right. The K & M is much better. I have both the 3000 from Sinclair and the K & M. No comparison whatsoever. Bill

If you're using Lapua brass in a factory chamber, or even a custom, non-tight chamber, it's doubtful that you will see any improvement. Neck-turning is necessary for custom, tight chambers, and is used to fit the brass to the chamber. Truing bad brass is futile. Since you are shooting Lapua brass, don't expect much benefit. After you've discovered how much fun hand turning is, I believe you will know the virtue of abstention.
