Newbie Load question for 6.5 Creedmoor

205 is not anywhere near a magnum primer, minimal at best. The "M" stands for match. Rem 7 1/2 is a lot hotter than the 205M which is at the bottom of the pile in hot primers....now you know.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's been most helpful. Hope to get out this coming weekend if weather cooperates. I'm going to start with the Hornady 147gr. ELD. with H4350 and IMR7828ssc. I'll post results next week. Thanks again.

I'm really tempted to try some VV560 under the ELDM 147, but It's only available on-line right now, and I don't want to pay the hazmat fee for just 1lbs, and I really don't need anything else right now. Still... tempting. Let us know how it goes, I haven't tried H4350 yet, assumed it would be too fast.

I've got loads with Rl26, varget, and h4831sc
I've yet to do a test with h4350.
My brother and nephew load rl17.
My gunsmith uses ramshot hunter.
The round seems to like a variety of powder bullet combos.
I started with rl26 as h4350 was hard to come by last year when I started work with this caliber.
Now h4350 is everywhere and you cant find Rl26.
Go figure!

Got way behind due to 2 back to back blizzards plus flooding in April but finally was able to put in some range time today. Started with IMR7828ssc ladder testing the Hornady 147 ELD using Federal Match primers and new Hornady brass. Found promising node around 47.0- 47.2 grains. Loaded 3 shot groups from 47.0 to 47.3 by .01 increments. 47.3 grains showed the most promise with a group just over 1/2 MOA. Still using new brass and I haven't played with bullet seating yet. Thoroughly inspected brass and found no pressure signs although this load shows right at max. I've loaded up 10 so I can run 5 through the Magneto speed and 5 for group. After this I'll be using resized brass bumped .002.

I chronographed factory 147 gr Hornady 147ELD at an average 2665 fps in my barrel. Based on the ladder test I am going to guess this load will not give me an additional 100 fps but I may be surprised. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Finally got back to the important things in life and shot the 147gr Hornady ELD in front of 47.3 gr of 7828ssc over the crony and ended up with an average velocity of 2750 fps. Still shooting almost 1/2 moa but only through a clean barrel. The most I've shot in one day is 30 rounds working up this load and it shoots fine. If I let the rifle set overnight and shoot it again the group opens up to 1 moa. Clean it and back to 1/2 moa. It could be me but I don't think so. I've read where most PRS shooters shoot hundreds of rounds throughout the season and never clean and still shoot great. Is that the difference between a custom barrel and a factory barrel? I have a factory barrel. I went through the standard barrel break in of shoot 1 clean 1 up to 10 rounds then shoot 3 clean up to 20 rounds etc. Any thoughts?

I did get a chance to stretch its legs last weekend. Shooting 500 yards at a 12" steel round. Perfect conditions. Light wind from 5 o'clock. Punched my new data into Strelok Pro and the first 2 rounds hit the steel about 4" apart. Moved POA to a rock on the hillside 738 yards away and entered new data into Strelok and drilled it. I think this load has potential. I did have one round that the bolt opened a little stiff and that brass had and slight ejector mark but the rest of them were fine.

My next step is to load up a couple hundred rounds and really put everything to the test. I have shot all my new brass so now I will move to resizing the neck and bumping the shoulder .002

Shoot Safe

I've been wondering about the 7828ssc in the 6five, due to the unavailability of RL26.
