New York Keeps Losing Population . . .

Hey! Come on guys! It takes a lot of money to keep Chuckie Schumer in office! Buying votes is getting more expensive every year!

Take a look at any State or City that has lived under Democrat's for the last 20 years and it will be a place that does not tolerate freedom. Not to worry, for every one of you taxpayers that leave, Chuckie will import 10 welfare recipients. Most will be illegals, but that the heck....they will get to vote, as long as it is Democrat.

AS we saw in the last election.... there are more of them than us. Thank God for the Electoral College.

Bill

NY is beautiful in summer. But it lasts two weeks.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hah! You said it, brother!

If humidity is not your thing, then Colorado is definitely on the list. I lived in CO for three years and moisturizer was always on the shopping list. There's no water in the air out there. I was hunting the Upper Plateau one year and came across an out building that had been standing for a long time, over a century by the looks of the lumber. The square iron nails weren't rusty!

I'm sorry to hear about your circumstances. We'll pray for you and your family.

Hi and welcome to Texas! We moved here 40 years ago and it has been very good for us. Hope you and your family have a great life in Texas. Also homestead your home, saves on taxes and if over 65 years old file for school tax break. Good luck

Been a Texan all my life, but ventured north to upstate NY several years ago on business & was amazed. Beautiful country, there. I seen a lot more farms than I would have imagined at the time, also. Every time I stepped into a store or filled up the gas tank though, I left lighter than I went in...A LOT lighter. Still remember driving around some neighborhoods in the Greece area & thinking "something's not quite right, here", then it dawned on me: air conditioners. There weren't any!

JLT, if you like fishing, you've got prime real estate about a half hour north of you. Not all of the hogs in TX are above water :)

We have central air but we didn't turn it on once last summer. Folks start to complain about the heat when the temperature gets into the mid 80s. Never understood that - I've never had to shovel heat.

As for the fishing, I've been told to get rid of my ultralight tackle. Two and four pound test aren't going to cut it, I guess. Can't wait!

I would think that California would be in the same boat, if you subtract illegal immigration from the populace there. Top income tax rate in CA is now 13.3%. They just added to their gasoline tax which was already among the highest in the USA. Sales tax in the town where we lived (native Californians, so 50+ years before we fled) is 9.5%, and it's 10% in a nearby town. If ever a wall is built around California, it will be to keep the taxpayers IN. :)

As to Texas, head from Lindale to Waco (southeast), then keep going about the same distance in that same direction. That's where we'll be, as of May 1. We're starting small, with a house on just over 8 acres, but we're hoping to get more land after we figure out what area we might prefer.

See you out there, ha ha.

(A buddy in Alaska was quick to remind me that even if they cut Alaska in half, Texas would still be just the 3rd largest state.)

Isn't it interesting that states like NY and CA are run by people that insist they're watching out for the middle class, yet the middle class is disappearing rapidly within their borders? A sad state of affairs indeed. I believe CA and NY are number 1 and 2, respectively, in highest taxation environments in the nation when one considers income tax, local taxes, sales taxes, real estate taxes, gas taxes . . . geez, I'm getting mad again!

Congratulations on your move. We'll see ya there! As for your friend in Alaska, he has a point but at least TX has daylight in the winter . . .

I will eventually leave Manhattan. It will either be when they put me in the ground or turn me to ashes. Each to his own I guess. I think you might find that New Jersey is up there with the tax situation. I have lived in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, New Jersey, Illinois (Chicago) Florida and New York. I guess I am just a New Yorker at Heart.

BOB where do you hide your guns...????

Seriously...I just don't understand the NE. I've been all over upstate NY. It's beautiful and with tons of things to do, but Long Island and NYC leave such a bad taste in my mouth I couldn't live in any part of the state. Same with California. The large population centers dictate taxes and laws for the rest of the state and good honest Americans living in those states. In some cases these population centers influence national elections.

To bring it back around. I'm glad you're going to Texas. Fair laws, fair taxes, and good people.

Upon reading that, the following song popped into my head. So I thought it only fair to share it with others. Apologies.

I don't hide my guns at all. I keep them locked up, but I own a bunch. Shotguns, Rifles and Pistols. I have had a full carry (unrestricted concealed) since 1970 and a NYC Carry permit since 1971. Owned a gun shop from 1970 until 1986 when I moved to Chicago. Other than the restrictions on "Assault Rifles" and magazine capacity, neither which makes any difference to me, I do not understand where all the hype comes from about not being a state where you can own guns. If the ammo shipping issue has been suspended, though some places still won't ship direct to New Yorkers. I have a home out of the city, where I keep most everything, but have a number of guns registered for my NYC address, so they can be kept at either location. Sure taxes are high, but I love being able to walk to 10 different movie houses from my apartment, go to plays at any of dozens of theaters, walk to 6 local restaurants on my tree lined street in the West Village and crawl home if necessary, go to thousands of REALLY good restaurants, museums etc. And, although I know in this state my vote really doesn't count, I am many of my friends are Republicans. Now, back to gun talk.

Bob

Like you and I both said, what ever floats your boat. I have lived in a lot of rural places in my life and always came back to New York. I do not hunt, but belong to 4 guns clubs on Long Island and two in New York city, three private, within 30 miles of my house, my main one 4.6 miles away and belong to three in PA and two in NJ, easy drives from Manhattan. One club is 5 blocks from my apartment in Manhattan. Although I do not hunt, I do like keeping my lawn free of geese with my sling shot as my house is on the water. So although I can not shoot off my back porch, I can climb in my power boat or sailboat without ever starting the car. New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, California and parts of Wisconsin have more restrictive gun laws than New York.

Bob

Bob, when did they remove the ammo shipping restriction? It has to go through a NY FFL and that will add another 20-35 bucks. IF YOU CAN FIND A SUPPLIER THAT WILL EVEN SHIP TO NY!!! NYS pistol permit is not reciprocal with any other state. Carefully read the NYS Safe Act and then tell me NYS gun laws are not the most restrictive in the US. They did not rescind the NY State Police NICS check to buy ammunition, they just suspended it until they have the website up and running. Get ready.... the worst is yet to come!

I live just about as far from NYC as you can get in NYS. But your NYC Dim politicians control my life. I would leave in a heart beat if I could sell my property for half what it would cost me to replace anyplace else. Although a good friend figures he will make up his loss in 10 years of saved taxes in FL. Only one place worse, CA, although CN, MA and NJ are pretty close. I am just too darn old!

"It seems like there is a lot of cooling down that needs to take place, on both sides. We've tried to be fairly lenient given that it's an election year, but this a private forum, dedicated to *shooting*. Not politics.

So, to get back to our regularly scheduled programming, we're going to be cracking down on political threads. If it's even *tangentially* related to politics, it's going to get canned pretty quick. If a poster persists in posting politically charged content, they will be "asked" to take a break. Policing political threads takes up way too much time and energy - both of which are better spent by the management doing load development and getting ready for matches.

Some of you may not like this policy - all I can do is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . This is a private forum. We reserve the right to police the content in any way we see fit. Those of you that see this as a "free speech" violation are dead wrong. There are plenty of forums out there specifically setup to discuss political issues. Go there.

If you are interested in accurate shooting of all types, then this is the place for you and welcome.

EDIT: The PM system allows you to hold "group" conversations - if you really want to, you can always setup conversations amongst yourselves about whatever you like."

Please take Jays advice and keep these kind of threads off of this SHOOTING site!
