New Weaver Tactical 4-20X scope review

Ok...I received my new Weaver Tactical 4-20X scope today and thought I would share my thoughts on it in case anyone is interested and/or are thinking about buying one.

I will be using this on a med. range AR-15 platform (20" barrel) and just for punching paper and maybe some static varmint hunting. So I wanted a good scope but not one that would break the bank.

I also have a couple of other scopes to compare it to and have included those as well.

All pics are taken from inside my house...and through a window at the neighbors house at 80 yrds distance...as I am not able to make it to the range so keep that in mind. I will do a follow up when it dries up around here and I am able to get out with it.

So...lets start with the good. Glass is surprisingly good. Clear and bright. Better then the Bushnell Elite 6500 but not quite as crisp as the NF NXS 5.5-22X. As others have mentioned it is on par with the Leupold MK 4's I have owned.
Build quality seems good. It has a good solid feel to it. The matt finish is nice...a dark charcoal gray.
Focus knob is very smooth and tracks well. The power adjustment is a bit stiff but about the same as my NF. The Bushnell is very smooth compared to them.

Now the things I am not keen on....it came with no lens covers, or sunshade. I ordered one (sunshade) with it and was told it would match...it was for the Super Slam line. Nope...not even close....so until they come out with one for the Tactical line I will be running it sans a sunshade.
The target knobs are "ok"...the design is not what I would want if I was actually using it for a work rifle. You have to lift the knob up to be able to turn it. And it is "wobbly" in that position so I would not feel comfortable leaving them like that.
Next is there are no numbers on adjustment hash marks. So say you have a 100 yard zero and go to 400 yards...you have no reference to come back down to 100 yards. See pic for what I am talking about.

So thats about it for now. Again...once I am able to actually get out and shoot with it this is where my review ends.

Here are the pics.

Take care,Stan

WEAVER TACTICAL AT 4X, 10X and 20X

NIGHT FORCE 5.5-22X at 5.5, 16, 22X

BUSHNELL ELITE 6500 2.5-16 and TAKEN AT 5.5 and 16X

Is this scope an FFP (first focal plane)?

Yes, you can tell that from the images by the reticle thickness increasing in line with magnification. Most tactical scopes are 1st FP designs as users prefer such reticle characteristics.

Stan,
impressive pics - the Weaver looks a good scope.
