New Viper Barrel Vise

Purchased one of these over the winter from Viper. Nice vise but a little slick. I use leather strip with some rosin and holds well. Not sure why Brownells is showing pics of the 4 bolt and 2 bolt vise. Assuming you’re getting the 2 bolt based on description.

Yeah after I saw Aron’s comment I went to Vipers website and this new one is a beefy 2 bolt vice with a sporter barrel option.

You can make the original Viper into a very good sporter barrel vise by cutting the top into two pieces. The front piece tightens down on the shank while the back half tightens down on the taper pretty well.

Makes getting those pesky Tikka barrels off much easier.

That's a good idea. Tikka can't be worse than remington?

The old Tikka T3 barrels are probably the hardest of the modern rifles, in my opinion. I think that the gorilla that they had torquing them on died when they released the T3x, but it is still a smaller relative of his that is doing it now.

For Remington's I can use an internal action wrench for removal. Trying that for a Tikka will result in a broken wrench or a damaged receiver.

I believe that Thor moved to Hollywood to make movies, Sako /Tikka were forced to employ Trolls to continue the work. His cousin, Godzilla, tightens Howa's and Weatherby Vanguards in Japan.

I just ordered the Brownells steel vice with steel bushings. Some time back, they had a great reputation for getting stubborn BAs apart. I'm hoping that is still the case.
