New to this forum and have a lot of question

Hi All,
I will make this as short as I can! A couple years back I bought a OLY AR 15 in 243WSSM, I just can't get a load that will do what I want it to, and to ad to it, I don't get to go shoot very much do to my bad back! So I have been looking around and have emailed a friend that has several of the WSSM but he has went the 6mmBR and loves them! I went and spent some time on the 6mmBR forum but did not find the info I was looking for.
Can a person get a 6mmBR barrel and bolt for a AR 15 upper? 2 reasons that I would like to go that way is because I have played with the AR's for years and the low recoil of the AR.
I hope that someone will straiten me out! If I can get the 6mmBR in the AR platform I was told that the Savage action was the best action to set the head space ect. I havn''t looked for a Savage action, but being that i have had several 98 mauser actions I know where to buy one.
I leave this wide open, and look forward to your comments.
Greg
p.s. I am going to try and post a pic of my 243WSSM, and my Target 223

Not sure from your description what is causing the problem with your back but I assume recoil is the problem. That being the case a 6BR is still going to kick nearly as much as your .243WSSM. You could load the cartridge you have down to 6BR levels if you are handloading. Use lighter bullets and powder slow enough to fill the space in the case while keeping velocities in the range that is comfortable for you (but still cycle the action).
ONe of the attributes of a bolt rifle is load flexibility. If you are looking for a heavier weapon to help mitigate recoil, a heavy barrel on a bolt gun with a heavier target stock will tame recoil but one still has to carry it to where ever you shoot. Nothing wrong with a Mauser action you already own, once barreled your head space is set. If you are handy, you can buy a short-chambered barrel from Brownell's for you Mauser in one of the calibers they offer and finish chamber it to your action. Plenty of stocks, triggers, etc. available as well.
Search this forum for years worth of posts that may answer your questions.

If you build a bolt gun,the savage is by far the easiest to modify at home. If you go with a varmint weight barrel and a decent stock, the felt recoil is very minimal.I have a light bench gun in 6 br and it is alot of fun to shoot.I dont like real heavy recoil as I have a bad back and shoulders etc etc etc . I wouldnt hessitate to build a 6br and they are great for varminting.

You may find this of some interest.

I have a couple of them black guns, it's a toss up between the AR's and the 6BR Bolt guns for fun.

One thing, I suggest a brass catcher if you decide to shoot good brass through your 6BR or variant AR. Gets expensive and you invest some time on the wildcats getting them fire formed.

I have an AR based match rifle in 6mm BR built from Oly parts from theses folks http://www.bratrifles.com/
It uses all the same parts as your WSSM rifle. the only difference is he had Oly build him bolts with the .473 face

Hi Guys,
First off, thank you guys so much for the reply's.
Been doing some reading I would realy like a 6mmAR 40 Turbo but it would be a long time before I could get that much cash toghter at one time! I wished that I could buy the barrel and then the upper and BCG. I looked at the RAT and a person can build one of those in parts! When I got my Oly 243WSSM upper I wanted a 24" but they were out of stock and was told it could be a couple months before they were back into stock, and since they were on sale I bought the 22", 1 week later the 24" came in! So since I don't have the cash to jump out and buy either one complete I am going to slow down and look around.
3fgun, I know what you are talking about with trying to find those high dollar brass! You guys have never meet anyone that is more tighter about finding brass as I am!! 30 years ago when I first started loading the 45acp you paid 10 cents per case for once fired brass back then that was a lot of money!! Now if you watch the forums you can get 45acp brass for 3 cents.
I would like to here from you guys, giving me your thoughts on what you think is the way to go??
