New to 300 PRC, advise?

I picked up some ADG brass and a box of the 212 eld-x to get the rifle sighted in and work up a load for practice/deer. For the some longer range loads should I skip the 225 eld-m and go to the Berger 230s? Or is that a Ford vs Chevy argument?

The 225 M work well in my 10 twist Lilja barreled hunting rifle. I could shoot them close to 3000 fps with RL 26 or Ramshot magnum. I wanted a mellow elk load to shoot with suppressor. This one works ! IMG_9346.jpeg

The phone call came! I picked up my rifle from the smith a few days ago. It looks great, he always does a great job for me. Also, I picked up some VV N570 the other day. I loaded up a handful of hornady 225s with it, that is some chunky stuff. I'll give the hornady bullets a try first, then if they aren't performing the way I hope I'll try some Berger 230s.

First range trip with the PRC today was a good one. I tested some 212 eldx and some 225 eldm. It was cloudy and cool, about 73°, barely any breeze to speak of. I had a suppressor on the gun the entire time today. I went to the local 100yd range, luckily it wasn't busy and I got a bench off to the side away from the others. I tried H1000 with the 212s, it shows great promise. 77.0grns had a nice group with decent chrono numbers, 79.0 had good numbers, but it double grouped. With the 225s, I first tried N570. I tried 78.0, 79.0 & 80.0. 78.0grn had a really nice group but the numbers were crap. With the 79 & 80, the groups weren't great and the numbers were crap. I suspect i need more powder to slip into the next node. The 225s with H1000 show good promise, I tried 76.0, 77.0 & 78.0. Out of the three, 76.0 had a decent group but the numbers were crap. 78.0 had the best numbers of the day but the group wasn't the best, however that was the last group of the trip and I was getting a little flinchy. So I will
revisit that one for sure. So I think for next trip I'm going to concentrate on the 225s. I will try a few more N570 loads with more powder, then some H1000 loads with a bit more as well. The brass and primers both look great throughout the 50 shots I made today. I do realize that the numbers could change next trip since I was fire forming brass today, funny I could tell a real difference, mainly in the shoulder area, in the virgin brass vs the fired cases. I would have posted a couple target pictures but the range was hot and I was in a rush to get home, so next time. Let me know if you have any thoughts on my results. The picture is the fired brass on the left, a new case on the right.

Thanks
Matt
