New scope question

I was wondering what you guys thought about the Cabelas 30 mm tatical classic rifle scopes? I was thinking about getting the 8-32x50 with the extended range reticle. At Cabelas it is $419. Mainly going to use it for target and competition at 600 and 1000 yards. I know there are better scopes out there, but I was hoping to spend around $400 or less for a scope. Is there any others out there that are better for this price?

Can you get a look at it, and see where it was made? If made in Japan, it may be worth a try. If made in China, then...
