New Savage vrs. Stevens 200 actions ?

Are they the same? The look the same outside. I can't imagine the would sell Savage's new target action for $375 to $400 and a complete Stevens 200 for $300. What would it take to acurize the Stevens action since it is so cheap? I
Question #2: Are the .308 and 22-250 bolt sizes interchangable on the new Savage action?
I have a nice BAT on my 6.5-284/6 Dasher switch barrel 1000yd gun that I built four years ago, but I want to build an extreme long range, switch barrel, "switch bolt", varmint rifle with all the BR qualities I can without weighing more than 12lbs or so. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a fine site and many Savage shooters peruse this site but you might want to also open this question over at http://www.savageshooters.com if you want everyone in Savage land to weigh in.

Forgot to mention, I put this post on this forum because this rifle I'm building is in 6 Dasher, something like a light weight F class gun. It would have one of Tim North's 5C barrels, a traditional American black walnut stock, laminate). Trying to find a scope as good as my Nightforce, but a LOT lighter. I'm looking for a custom "drop in" remington clone like the Borden.
Any ideas for a short action for this project would be greatly appreciated. That's what the Savage question was all about. I posted on the Savage shooters dot come forum. Thanks.

Jim: The difference between the Savage and the Stevens is the Accu trigger. The Stevens is the earlier version of the Savage before the Accu trigger was added. For the price, the new Savage would be the way to go. Get the action with the size bolt head you need and you're almost there. Add a barrel and stock of your choice and go shooting. If you go with the Stevens, sell the take off barrel, stock and trigger. That way you can build one the "way you want". Either way, you'll have fun doing the build. ;)

The target action is very different from the regular Savage/Stevens action. At a minimum, the following are different,I don't claim to know it all). The target action; 1) has a small ejection port 2) is a single shot 3) uses a larger diameter barrel 4) has a lighter,6oz to 2.5 lb)trigger and 5) is generally much beefier than a standard action. I'll be buying one for a 6mmbr build soon.

Keith: If you're right,,and if you've checked them out you would know) I stand corrected! Would love to have the newer, lighter Accu Trigger on my 16 fss. Got too many irons in the fire or I'de be getting one for another build.;)

If your swaping out the trigger anyway then go with a Stevens repeater. However if your going for a single shot, then a Savage single shot or the new target action would be the way to go if your going the Savage route.

Now if you go with something else IMHO a custom action is in order. I wouldn't mess around with a Remington having it trued and sleeved and what-not.

Some people like the Remingtons...personally I do not. Go custom and be done with it.
