New Savage 6BR build

I am almost ready to send my savage off to Sharpshooter Supply to have it reworked into a 6BR. I'm going to have the action timed and trued, a 27" 1 in 8 twist douglas barrel put on with a .272 neck and .80 freebore. I will also be having them install their competition trigger. I am going to be using this for my once or twice a year varmint trips and for long range paper punching,600meters, maybe 1000) With this setup I am hoping to shoot the 87gr VMax bullets, maybe 75's?) and the 107 SMK's. Did I come up with a winner or should I adjust my setup? Comments are welcome as I am quite new to this kind of advanced setup.

Sounds real close to the rig that I've got in the works. Only difference is the barrel length and the action truing. The action will get a workover at the end of the year. Don't want to turn it loose till I get some trigger time on it.
Mine is 24" barrel with a Rifle Basix trigger. I think I'll go single shot for now. I'll work on the mag feeding at a later date. My barrel should be here by the weekend of first of next week.:D
I like the idea of the "no turn" neck. Less to work on and more time to play. Hope I have as much fun as I think I will.
If you're like me you'll be having a ball. Enjoy and keep us posted! Mike.

Sounds good to me... shot mine in another Prone/F-Class match this weekend. Savage 10FP sent off to SSS for trueing and timeing, w/ a Rifle Basix trigger, SSS SVT bolt handle, SSS recoil lug, new stainless barrel nut, SSS 6mm BR 1-8" .272" nk 27" barrel, Stockade Woodchuck stock, same thing as a SSS Varmint/Tactical)... Warne 20moa 1-pc rail, Warne 30mm tactical rings, Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20X LR/T scope...

Works pretty dang well for me. Won the second and third F-Class matches it's been in so far, probably gonna get thumped this weekend for saying that...) shooting 107gr SMK's over 29.5gr Varget, Lapua cases, yeah, it's a no-turn neck but I did a light clean-up turn to 0.0131" anyway), CCI 450 primers.

,'borrowed' the pic from another shooter that had a camera freed up that day...)

Sounds like the 1-8 twist might be a bit fast for the lighter bullets...just fine for the heavier 107 gr bullets. I would probably go with a 1-10 twist and call it good all around. Actually for bullets lighter than 90 grains...a 1-12 twist ought to be the ticket. The 1-10 twist is a nice compromise.

Good luck...Bill Dorsey

My thinking is having a 6mm but I am not set on the chambering.

I want to be able to drive the 115 DTACS or Bergers to 2950 or so.

.243 win my best bet here or would the 6x47SM or XC do the job as well.

thinking 1-7.5 twist at 28-30 inches.

RHINOUT!
