New Savage .308 Stock Configuration

OK I'll admit I should know the answer to this question. Could someone please tell me if the stock on the new Savage .308 Target Rifle actually has a section that lifts up for cheek adjustment or is that some sort of "pad" that is being shown in the pics of the rifle. Thanks in advance for your answers. Bill

Bill,

The current design uses a black plastic cheekpiece held in place with a screw that goes into the stock. If you want a different height, it comes with a couple different thickness cheekpieces. The cheekpieces are basically the same part as used on the Choate Ultimate Varminter stocks. Not pretty, but they are functional. You do have to remove the cheekpiece to clean the gun, fwiw.

Thanks for the info. I was just concerned if no adjustment was used, would the stock look completely normal or would it have a
"cut out" area in the top of the stock? Thanks, Bill

Completely normal except for three 1/8" screw holes, for if you wanted to move the cheekpiece forward or back from the standard position).

HTH,

Monte

The cheek pieces are probably functional however IMHO they cheapen the look of the stock. The stock used on the 6.5x284 model is much better looking and more functional.

Well... I won't profess any fondness for the cheekpiece, but it does work rather well, and I feel the comb of the stock is too low to use with a large scope w/o some sort of cheekpiece. I don't know that you can get it w/o the cheekpiece, and the holes in the stock)... but I think they aren't too obtrusive. I'd say try finding one to try, with and without the cheekpiece if you can.

Good luck,

Monte
