New Rifle

I have a youngster I'm mentoring with reloading. Very sharp kid. Only 16 year old i ever met that has his own vegetable garder!!!
His folks bought him a new 6.5 PRC rifle. Upper end brand. Like probably a $2000.00 rifle. He brought it to the house to show off of course. Anyway. I asked him if he had cleaned it yet. Kind of through him off with it being new and all.
I was blown away at what we got out of that barrel. Anybody besides me think this might not be a new rifle. I've never experienced this before.

WOW... I've had dirty barrels new, but nothing even close to that.
Check with a borescope if you can.

Tried but my dang bore scope is acting up. It worked for about 20 seconds. I swore i saw some carbon build up in the bottom of the rifling AFTER cleaning but the scope crapped out before I got in the barrel very far.

Was it bought at a store or a gunshop.
If it was a gunshop I'd guess they may have passed it off as new without checking it out first based on seller possibly.

I have had very dirty barrels in new rifles in the past. sometimes it is cosmoline or some other rust preventative. Sometimes it seems it was test fired and not cleaned after. Just recently an Uberti High Wall in 45 Colt was filthy and presumably was new.

The part that blew me away was the copper I got out. I run the chrome plated(silver) jags so I don't get false reads when cleaning. I foam soaked the barrel for a while. Then went to work with a nylon brush and bore-tech. It took some scrubbing and soaking to get a relatively clean patch out.

Looks like you used blue toilet bowl cleaner. Don't recall seeing such dark blue patches ever -unless I was soaking bullets in bore solvents for testing.

Thats crazy. I might get some brownish preservative or a little powder fouling from test firing. Never any copper to speak of. Even then, hundreds of 6 creed Doesn't look like that! Does the bore look like sandpaper or what?!

Let sit overnight with Sweets, always my final test. It's why I only use Hopped and Sweets. All else fails.

Please don’t let a barrel sit overnight with Sweets. Please.

A rough factory barrel can have a mine of copper in it after the first shot. I’d investigate the history of the gun anyway, but I’ve seen plenty of factory guns copper like crazy for a few shots. They may have fired a 3 shot group on a dry barrel or something.

Answer this question please. On the bottle after the 10min. sentence how long does it tell you wait before you can run another patch. I do believe it tells you to run patches as often as needed?
By the way, I have been doing this for close 50 years if your wondering if I have any experience. So I suggest you Don't cry wolf.

This rifle has never been fired by the owner. Brand new rifle.

That’s the amount of patches produced in my 6.5 after 3 relays of 20 rounds each, plus sighted fouler rounds. Something amiss!
