NEW RIFLE

I have a new rem 700 xcr longrange tactical in 300wm with a nightforce 3.5-15-50 nxs with milldot . had problems to start with the gun but think its fixed. i set gun in with 190 bh match it shoots around 3/4 to 1/2 should i hunt with these shells or not ?

Assume you're shooting 100yds? Groups good for deer. Probably not good for squirrels.

Whatcha hunting?

How far gonna be shootin that which you're huntin?

Shouldn't be hunting with match bullets. Should be useing huntin bullets.

Don't hunt with a gun lessen you know it's fixed. Otherwise you're fixxin to get in trouble.

if it is shooting that good, and assuming you are hunting deer and such at relatively close ranges, just head shoot them. (am I allowed to say such things here??) match bullet or not, it will work. no mess field dressing, no tracking, no meat loss, and you don't have to worry about them running down into that bottomless canyon. if you aren't comfortable taking that type of shot, then go with some sort of hunting bullet. I prefer sierra 165 hpbt gamekings in my .308, but i am also not shooting them 2 miles away. i also don't have to worry about where i shoot them.

and as for what im hunting it is deer. i love to shoot them below the bottom jaw so i dont waste no meat.as for how far im shooting i can shoot up to 5 or 6 hundred yards.and the gun is shooting .5 to .750 groups with factory loads i will start reloading next year.

Congrats on the new rifle. I had a 300RUM that shoot the 185 Bergers very well. I would try the HSM. I have also had good luck with 180 gr Nosler Accubonds in both the 300 Win Mag and 300 RUM.

I shot 3 deer last year from 75 to 350 yards with the Berger 185 Targets 30 cal not the hunting vlds. BIG MISTAKE never recovered 2 and the 3rd I made sure to put the bullet in the cranium.

From past experience with several .30 cal magnums, it's hard to beat a good, accurate 180 grain cup and core bullet such as the Sierra Gameking or the Nosler Ballistic Tip or Accubond.

The lighter 165's can be used, but seem to be a bit overwhelmed by the velocity of the .300 mag. Heavier 200 gr bullets also work well.
