"NEW" Rifle...but used

Ive had remington new rifle barrels come out black as coal on the first cleaning patch right out of the box. If everything looks brand spanking new ,even the outside of barrel, action ,stock I'd say it's a new gun not to sure what you see as fire cracking is fire cracking. If it was shot that much you would see some sort of wear marks on the bolt and action rail. shot that much and never put a ding or scratch on it must of been really careful with it. But always a possibility, but I'm not convinced it was used.

It's been used to the extent of a fairly large carbon ring. Tomorrow I'm going to try and get a picture of the ring. Not sure if I'll be able to. I've never shot it !!! I agree most guns news come clean in a few patches... this one isn't !!!

Well... The distributor said the LE firearms are fired a couple hundred rounds for the contract with LE firearms. Nothing he will do with it, I expected that. I have a call in as well with Remington to see if that is fact. Maybe it will shoot once I get it cleaned !! If not I'm just going to re-barrel it. Anybody ever heard of that with the LE firearms? The saga continues.....

If that is the case, you in fact purchased a used firearm.
I agree with this, and I'm suspicious of the claim that they test fire a rifle for a couple hundred rounds, that seems very excessive

Pure, unadulterated, meadow muffins!!

Just got off the phone with Remington...and YES is BS !!! They do fire the firearms but at max it would be five rounds !! That's not enough to have a carbon ring that big and the barrel be full of copper. So, yes I got to take one for the team so to speak...yep it hurt. I'm just gonna re-barrel it now !! So I'll start another thread for that.
Thanx again

I work in LE and buy guns that are LE restricted (price-wise) and they are not treated any different than any other gun. Fired several times to ensure they are working properly and sent out. You got shafted. I'd raise a stink about it. Not only did you pay new price for a used gun, possibly a ruined gun, the dealer is lying to you. I'd do it out of principle if nothing else. At the least report them to BBB and tell them you are doing so and maybe even throw around the A(ttorney) word just for effect even if you have no desire to pursue anything. Might at least get them to stress a little. Maybe not. I'd certainly on top of that tell them you are a member of a number of very popular shooting/hunting forums and you'll be posting a detailed review of your experience with them. Also how did you pay for it? Credit card, file a dispute. Paypal, same thing. Might even talk to your bank and see if they can do a charge back if you used a debit card. Cash...well, you might be S.O.L. I'd do something though. I don't know why but this actually makes me mad and it's not even my gun or me being ripped off...lol

rmist - its a shame because i just purchased this exact rifle couple of months back and i bought it off gunbroker from dealer outwest - great shooter matter of fact best factory shooter i own in 223 - my brother has one identical as well and i worked up a load for it and know the reputation of this rifle and thats why i purchased this one - hate for you to have to rebarrel because i think the barrel is why it shoots so well and it just feels great -- sure hope it shoots ok after you get it clean - soak it with eliminator and see what it does for it and post back if you get a resolution to your problem with dealer and rifle - im sure all of us have learned a lesson from your post

If you haven't fired it and it came through a dealer, send it back as defective through him. Or contact a lawyer and he will handle it. I would also see if Remington would be willing to loo at it. I hope you have a receipt with date to prove it wasn't bought sometime ago. When you call Remington and get to someone ask to speak to a lead technician. I had to do it with a gun in 308 that had so much headspace the field gage dropped in and was sloppy. My buddy fired it and every case was close to separation. They did rebarrel it. Tell the tech the bs that jerrys fed you.

Call your state's consumer affairs bureau. Sometimes they can get action a lot quicker than hiring an attorney. Won't cost you a cent either.

Most states have a consumer protection office somewhere, maybe your state Attorney General. You might place a call to them, as the firearms is most surely not new.

Today my FFL told me he's buying the rifle back plus money spent on the bolt. Now I'm in need of a action in 223 !! But happy he is getting it back !!!
