New rifle build...can't make up my mind. Clear heads needed

I've always wanted a wsm... I need to stop reading this thread.
If I was going to go back to a short mag or a magnum of any kind I believe it would be a WSM. I had a .300 Lapua and 3 .300 RUM's and a .300WM. The WM was the least expensive for me to shoot. I did have a 7SAUM that was a hammer.

I pulled a new .300WSM to screw the 7saum on and sold the WSM barrel. Almost wish I hadn't so I could have experienced the WSM.

I'm past my magnum days. ( I Think )

Some considerations:

Brass. Available and reasonable. And more than two firings.....
If you are limited to the 307's bolt face the Norma and Lapuas are out.
300WM....everybody has one. 300WSM, great round, too close to 30.06 the op already has.
300Wby....Brass not the best and expensive.
30 Nos...soft nosler brass. At least it used to be, maybe it's better now.
300 PRC...good brass and available. Good cartridge design, it's the darling now.

300 RUM for the win. With a 28" you will be surprised how fast you can send the 215 and 230's.
I agree with about everything said.

If I were to have a receiver with a .590 bolt face, it would definitely be a Norma, but I want to stay with a .540, so.... Yep. Those two are out.

300WM....I know it's a great round, and will do about everything 50 fps better than the WSM, but that's one reason why wouldn't want it. The WSM is more efficient with nearly the same performance, so the WSM beats out the WM for me.

I'm not interested in any Weatherby cartridges. Good HP, but expensive brass.

30 Nosler.... Nothing against it, but I feel there is just as good of options in .30 caliber with cheaper/better selection of brass.

300 PRC.....I can't think of anything bad with it.

300 RUM.... It is a beast. Honestly I haven't done my homework on it as far as brass quality/availability and mag length issues. I may have to do a little research, because it is a hot rod, no doubt.

Well, I own several of them and my favorite is the 30 Nosler. If you go that route, make sure you have plenty of throat to maximize the round's potential. Why? Because it is very accurate and for what it does the recoil is pleasant. It can also be chambered on a regular LA receiver. But if you just want bigger solocam is right 300RUM is the boss.

In big calibers I have -
(Note: Everything I own shoots .5 MOA or better)

6.5-300 WBY - Fun but expensive to shoot
30 Nosler - Fast, accurate, manageable recoil
26 Nosler - Inefficient but damn accurate with very low recoil!
300 WSM - Just an accurate low recoil deer slayer LOVE it
300 WM - What can I say, 300 Win Mag is a wonderful round, accurate and easy to find components.

NONE of them are cheap to shoot or reload but I think 300WSM is probably the cheaper.

Outside the .30 world I also love my 26 Nosler! Then my 300 WSM and 300 WM shoots lights out... Uggggg it is so hard to decide, I LOVE THEM ALL!
It is hard to decide isn't it? Haha

How's the brass availability/options with the 30 Nosler? I'm not finding much with it. Seems like everything i find is priced the same as the 33 Nosler and that's kind of why I settled on the 33 vs the 30. The 250gr bullets sound fun.

Well I will throw the monkey wrench in and say go with a 375 Ruger. Brass is available and the 270 to 300 grain bullets will do everything you want on a hunt for any critter walking this old earth.
A good friend of mine has a 375 Ruger in a M77 African. It's a nice rifle and a good shooter.

I've looked at it, but can't find anyone that has brass in stock.

It is a nice round though.

Good god man! I had to look that one up!

The .375 Ruger is a rimless, standard-length rifle cartridge designed for hunting large and dangerous game like elephants, buffalo, and bears. It has a muzzle velocity of more than 2,600 feet per second and can deliver over 4,500 foot-pounds of energy.

Damnit, now I have to build one... Thanks :(
It's case is where all of the PRC cartridges came from.

300wsm is a beast and I just ordered the saami reamer because I wanted to run a 155 scenar in a true short action. I built it for an axis hunt, I ended up deer hunting with it one season then used it on the hunt to kill an axis. It was stupid accurate and 3200fps in a 24” barrel. I need to pull it back out of the safe.

Those talking about 30 Nosler brass…don’t use Nosler, use ADG. I’m shooting the low node 215 @ 2900fps in a 22” barrel. I built it for a Nilgai hunt on the King Ranch, it performed admirably. I had planned on selling it after the hunt but I just can’t let go of it.

Depends on bbl length you can have for this build, the more bbl length you can get, the less powder you need

I had a 300wm until I built a 338 edge. Sold the 300. Had two 300rums, sold them and kept the edge. I still have a 20" 300wsm that I hunt with, I wouldn't consider it a big gun

The 338 edge sends a 265gr cutting edge MTH at 3000fps from a 28" 10 twist benchmark with H1000. 3.89" oal feeds from a 4" Wyatt's box if you need it to. ADG brass. Just saying...

I've always wanted a "big" rifle. I don't need one, but this is America by golly.....I just want one and that's a good enough reason. Right now, a 30-06 is the largest caliber I own. Never could talk myself into something else, because it'll do everything I need and more. Well, now I'm throwing all sensible thinking out the window and I'd like some help deciding on what I want to chamber it in.

A little forewarning..... Some of you will read this and say "I thought he wanted a big gun???" These are as big as I want to handle and have to worry about feeding.

I'll start off saying what the rifle will be (or close to) and it's indeed purpose. I'm going to buy a Weatherby 307 long action, Magnum bolt face and have a Brux (probably) barrel screwed on. Heavy Varmint or MTU contour, most likely 28" long. Haven't decided on the stock yet, but it'll be a A3 type stock. It's just going to be for fun. No competitions (as of now) and no hunting, just fun at the range.

I've been all over the place with ideas on what I would like it chambered in. I started out wanting a 300 PRC and then thought, "no.....a 300 WSM would be better." More cost friendly from the reloading side and still good ballistics. Then I started thinking again....."nope.... That doesn't have enough "wow" factor" (Which I know is stupid) and then set my sights on a 33 Nosler. Now I feel like I'm stuck between all of them and can't make mind up. I'm in a state of analysis paralysis. I know it really doesn't matter, but I figured it would make for some good bench racing. From those three calibers with my intend purpose, which would you choose and why?

I know a 30 caliber will have a lot more variety of components to choose from and cost at the minimum $1 less per round to shoot, but it's all good. I don't see it being a rifle that I'm going to shoot like I do my Creedmoor, but I still want one none the less.
I would pick a caliber that known for extreme accuracy. The only thing that comes to mind is a 284 WIN or one of it's variations. It's no fun shooting a rifle that isn't accurate. And it's no fun trying to make an unaccurate caliber shoot.
