New Redding 1" Dies

Good day,

Anyone played with the new Redding 1" dies? I've been told Redding will release adapters so the the dies will fit various presses. These dies are also supposed to restore the case body closer to "nominal" spec at the .200 line. As an example, I was told the 1" 300 WM body die would size cases closer to the 0.505" body size instead of the 0.510 size of the standard body die. And yes, I'm aware some of the body dies the released have a smaller diameter, I just never found one.

Thanks,

This was news to me. Here's a good summary:

Redding Reloading Equipment announces the new benchmark in precision handloading. The revolutionary "Z Series" Die Family utilizes Larger, Stronger and more Robust 1" die bodies.

Redding engineering has proven that the modern high performance cartridge designs of today are severely taxing the capabilities of traditional 7/8" reloading dies. The 7/8" diameter became the industry standard in the post WWII era, but today's new cartridge designs provide numerous reasons to question that standard. In short, it is all about the strength of material, the stresses induced and the deformation that occurs in the die itself. With the revolutionary "Z Series" Dies, the handloader can see, feel and measure
and the difference. Based on relative strength, the "Z Series" Dies are as much as 2X stronger than traditional 7/8" dies. Extensive lab testing has shown that this increased strength and rigidity provides significantly reduced sizing effort as well as more consistent and measurable sized case dimensions.

The initial "Z Series" offering will include single dies, die sets and bushing die sets in (31) popular cartridges from 284 Win to 375 (9.5x77). The new "Z Series" Dies are also readily adaptable to most reloading presses marketed today with a simple die bushing change. Redding is now offering new "Z Series" Turret heads to increase the flexibility of the ever-popular Redding T-7 Press.

I'm struggling a bit with the "Why?" of upgrading to this. My Redding Type-S FL dies work great ... never had a problem with them. I guess I'll watch from the sidelines for a while and see if this is something that I can't live without.

Marketing marketing marketing. First dies, then a press to handle the dies. They have trouble keeping up with 7/8 dies and now they want to add another line. My 50 yr old dies still going strong and ammo still shooting under .5”. I have yet to feel the need to load artillery.

So a single 1" 7mm mag die costs $195.00 where a 7/8" two die set costs $69.00
Screw Off.

Most single stage presses are 1 1/4"-12 with an 7/8"-14 adapter. Remove the 7/8" adapter and insert a 1" adapter. It will be thin, but should work!
I've been using a custom 1" Neil Jones full length bushing sizing die for my 300 WAMBOMAG wildcat for over 15 years, he says a 1" die is required for the 338 Lapua class cartridges and he supplied the adapter bushing for my Redding Ultramag press, works great!

i always wished for some of my dies to have finer threads on them to make it easier to adjust shoulder bump. Of coarse i dont wanna spend more time screwing them in and out of the press. Why i got a coax. Most People didnt used to be willing to pay 200.00 for a set of dies. Now the Cool kids gotta have em and turn up their noses at a Standard Full Length die set.
It only makes sense Redding would try expanding into an area like this now that people have shown the willingness to pay for them. Good for them- Me, Myself and I havent seen a need for one of these sizers so far. Especially at the 195.00 price. Mabie I will some day so i hope Redding keeps them in the lineup. I would like to look at one.

My various brands of reloading dies have served me just fine for over 60 yrs. So I will pass on starting to obtain 1 in die sets. Even for some of my very large cartridges, they have worked just fine.
But those that want one inch dies, have at it.

As I said I use a COAX, but also use Whidden "click" sizing dies, so I have not found a need for finer threads. I have also never found a need for a "tighter" sizing die. May just my rifles.

I have a coax also that i use for much of my loading. Im not buying any click sizing dies. Ive also got three or four other single stage presses and dies for at least Fifty cartridges With all those I havent really had any sizing problems either.
