New nightforce comp scope

Lots of comparison between the new comp scope and the NXS. What about comparing it to the 12-42 BR? Is it $1000.00 better?

Danny

I did look at them at the last match, and i didn't see any difference at equal powers. The comp. has a lot less eye relief than the NXS like almost an inch, and a smaller objective than the NXS, this makes it easer to mount and with the less weight easer to balance. I can't see where it's clearer than the NXS or the the leupold 45 power. It sure gets darker above 45 power like the March10-60 but thats a wash there. My take is if you need a weight loss and want to spend that kind of money to reduce the weight by 6 OZ. it would be the way to go,i guess. But remember it just came out and it's the first year,we will see....... jim

Guys,

Sounds like the Competition is all it's cracked up to be. I thought of picking one up and sending to NF for a reticle of my choice and zero stop turrets put on. Extra cost yes, but it would be exactly what I want.

Your thoughts?

johara, if you didn't see any difference between the two there is something wrong with your eyesight or the scope, there is a definitive difference in clarity and light transmission.

Jayman, do not buy the scope and expect to send it to nightforce and get whatever reticle you want, I spent almost an hour on the phone with them yesterday and it cannot be done, there are 2 offerings, CTR-1 and DDR, you can't take a crosshair from a 12-42 and install it into a 15-55. He went into the explanation over the phone why it couldn't be done, but it can't and I'm not going to try and expain why in fear of saying something incorrectly. The best thing to do is send them an email or call and let them them know what reticle you would like to have, when the next release comes out hopefully they will offer it then.

Just one of the advantages I've seen with the new comp. vs. my Benchrest 12-42's is that I continue to be able to spot 6mm holes at 500 meters, the same holes that I either cannot see at all, or are really difficult to find with the Benchrest.

That means I do not always have to setup the Nikon Fieldscope 11, 82mmED glass, to be able to find bullet holes. Less equipment to carry, setup and takedown means a lot to me.

Shooters choice and I've made mine.

I've made my choice too, fdhuster. To my eyes the Comp.'s clarity completely blows away my 12-42BR, and my 12-42NXS isn't even close. Not to say they aren't both great scopes, but when I consider the clarity edge, and the weight factor, the choice is clear to me. These factors outweigh the large dot for me, and if we all keep dinging on NF for more reticle options, maybe we'll have the best of both worlds in a few moths or so.---Scott

Bought the new comp 55 .Have had mine to the range100Yards with a BR and NXS .Will shoot a match out to 1k sunday. Hope no one else in my class has my scope ;)

I've had mine for a couple of weeks. While my BR is a very nice scope I've become spoiled by the side focus of my NXS.

I got the DDR reticle. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the subtensions out there. I made up this little drawing to help me until NF puts out the official info.

Went to a match this past sunday and looked thru one of the Comp scopes at a 500 yard target on 55X with DDR reticle. Promptly came home, booted up computer and bought the one here in the marketplace with CTR reticle. I was that impressed with the resolution. I owned an 8-80 March 2 years ago and scope was pretty much unusable at anything above 55 power and i sold it. Can't wait to get this Comp scope mounted on my new Dasher.
