New nightforce comp scope

I am selling all of my 12x46's as I fell in love with the new scope.

It makes the X ring look like a pie plate @ 55 power! 600 yds

Very clear, moreso than my other scopes.

Just got mine about a month ago. I haven't however shot using it. Waiting for my 6.5 project to wrap up. Seems super nice handling it and looking through it. Feel like I am short changing my 6br with my 12-42 nf already.

I have one. I had a NF 12-42 NXS prior. I've only been load testing at 100 yards with it, so I can't really say much about it. Its clear and bright, just like my NXS. Focus seems to be more sensitive when adjusting, not a bad thing though. Clicks are positive with a nice feel. I was able to add 6oz to the rear of my stock from weight savings(my main reason for going with one). I hope to shoot it at 1K next week, so we'll see what happens! It looks good. I have the silver finish and dust/marks are invisible, unlike the matte finish black.

I have shot mine at 100, 200, 300, 400 & 1,000 yards. I have the DDR reticle. I don't have a single bad thing to say about it. I shot it side by side with my FFP S&B 12-50x56. My first thought was that I really needed to clean the glass on the Schmidt. Nope, the glass was clean.
At a 1000 yard match in a Ga. hayfield, without looking I rolled the power back on both the S&B & NF 15-55 so that the mirage was tolerable. I left the power setting alone all match. After the match I checked the power settings. I had rolled the S&B back to 18x. I had rolled the NF back to 38x. To me a clear winner.
I can only speak for my eyes but the new NF 15-55 Competition scope in my opinion is head & shoulders above the others. One of the ways I rate items is........do I want my competitors to use the product against me? I would hope & prefer that my competitors like scopes other than the NF 15-55 Competition scope.
Having said that, my plan has always been to try & cover up a lack of talent with really good equipment.
Regardless of cost I don't think you can by a better scope for long range target shooting.

Got mine last week, first chance to use it this morning. First fired one of my 6BR's, 8 twist at 500 meters, with one of my 12-42x Benchrest's. Early morning, 45 minutes after sunrise, not a trace of mirage, and although I was able to find all the 6mm holes, it was difficult.

Then, after having adjusted & sighting in the 15-55x, put it on the same pre-shot target at 500 meters, set at 55x & the shot holes were easily seen with no extra effort.

The ED glass is just a little better than the glass on my Benchrest models, in my opinion, and eyes.

As wc872 said, "I don't have a single bad thing to say about it". Bought it from Bill Shehane & he commented that the vast majority of his sales have been with the DDR reticle. I always preferred the 2DD's on my Benchrest's, but like the DDR even more.

Another winner from Nightforce.

I also took my new Competition model out for the first time today. First off I will say I like this scope very much. I used it on my match rifle chambered in 6.5x47L, this rifle had a NXS 12-42 1/8th click scope on it before. I moved the NXS over to my back up rifle that had a Benchrest mdl on it. My observations were that the glass is very good at powers below the max, at 55 power I found it to be a little dark, dark like a March 60 power is at max power. I am blessed or maybe cursed with Eagle Vision and I really do notice the slightest change. I had a couple of folks look through both the NXS and the Competition as well as my March, none of them saw the difference I was noticing.

With the power cranked down to 42 power it is the clearest scope I have ever used. I did a tracking test and it passed with flying colors as well. When I first got this scope I was uncertain about two things.

One was the reticle choice and two was the 52mm objective len size. As it turned out the 52mm is a no problem and looking through the scope I couldn't tell any difference there at all. I also bought this scope from Bill Shehane and went with the DDR as well, I do not like this reticle because of the dot, that's just because I don't like dots. In piratical use it was OK even considering my very limited experience with dot type reticle's. The shooting today is just about 95% of that experience with dots. Will I learn to like it? Well time will tell, but if that is the biggest problem I have with this new scope I am in the very good shape.

So for I seem to like it, the only complaint I have is the center dot, I plan on doing a real good camparison Saturday at a match but it certainly looks to me like the center dot is larger on the CTR-1 than it is on the CH-3. The CH-3 is supposed to be .200 and the CTR-1 and DDR are both supposed to be .125, has anyone else looked though both and think the same. I will set them side by side and find out for sure Saturday but to look though one and set up the other I would almost bet the CTR-1 is larger which I don't like.

I wanted the DDR reticle but thats a whole different story from EuroOptic. Next one will come from Bill Shehane

I shot the new competition this past weekend and I can honestly say if I wasn't hard pressed to save weight, I would have stuck with my NXS w/.125 clicks. I don't see it being any brighter or clearer than an NXS. Guys picking up used NXS's for $1400-$1500, you are getting a heck of a deal. I do not see any advantages of the 55x. I can say at 55x, its not as bright and FOV is cut way down, so you better have a well tracking rig to get back on the X. I pretty much settled on 40-45x for two matches. I don't have anything bad to say, but was hoping for a bit more for $2231! The reduction of weight helped me out on my particular setup though.

NXS: The focus locking ring is an issue for me. The older you get, at least me, I always refocus every time I shoot. Having the lock ring vs not having one on any of the BR models is a plus for me.

Yes, the field of view is tighter on the 55's. The X ring looks like a pie plate through the 55. It definitely has helped me steady my shots. I can also determine my break point with the 55.

So far I am happy with my decision to upgrade to the 55's.

Not sure what you are referring to? The NXS does not have a lock ring on the focus knob. Are you talking about the eyepeice?

I'm the opposite, I'd rather have a locking eyepiece since I rarely need to adjust it after it has been set. With the competition model, I know I will end up adjusting it after I inadvertently move it! Like I said, I have nothing bad to say about it other than saving 7 ounces is pretty pricey!

How is the eye relief of the competition model compared to the NXS and more specifically, the March?

I know what the specs say, but would like real world experience. I've been shooting the March 10-60 Tactical model for the past two years and the eye relief is quite critical. Not that is a bad thing, just looking for a comparison from those who shoot both.

I used the new Competition 15-55 scope for the first time while shooting as part of the US F class team in South Africa. I was very impressed with the optics. It is much brighter than the NXS I have been using. It compares very favorably with the 60 power March I used at last year's FCNC. During the SA match we shot at least 4 different distances each day so I was dialing it up and down frequently. It was always dead on what I dialed. My teammates and I collected a lot of match and aggregate wins and medals. The scopes proved themselves in a very tough competition.

I didn't have any issues with the eye relief. It seemed pretty forgiving.

I did a side by side comparison like I said I was going to last weekend. The Dot is definitely larger than the dot in the CH-3 Reticle, manageable but bigger. We had a NXS with a CH-3 Reticle, a March 10-60 and the 15x55 all side by side, HANDS DOWN, the new 15x55 has a much clearer image than the March or the NSX, neither one of them are even in the same class. I don't own a March but I am glad I own a Competition and would not think a 10-60 is any improvement optically over the Nightforce; in fact the Nightforce is a big improvement over the 10-60 March in my opinion. We didn't compare an 80 power March, and there were a few there but I am happy with the Nightforce. I like the older reticles better, CH-1 and CH-3 in particular but I can live with the CTR-1. In my opinion, if Nightforce offered the 15-55 with a fine crosshair it would be the ultimate competition scope offered for the money. Someday, maybe money won't be an issue and I might consider a 80 power March, but for now I'm sure I made the right choice in purchasing the Competition series. In fact, if they offer a fine cross hair in the future, my other Nightforce will be for sale and will get replaced.
