My nxs seems a little more forgiving but it is very close and others perceptions my vary. In my opinion unless you need the weight savings, additional adjustment or more maginfacation I would do the nxs or br, especially now that you can get nxs 12-42 for $1700.

I've got a competition and overall I like it. I needed the weight saving (2lbs 3.25oz with shade and nf ultralights) and thought the extra magnifacation would be nice along with the increased adjustment range. At normal range conditions the glass might be slightly better than my br at the same power (a resolution chart might prove otherwise to me they are very close) but was better than nxs. The comp was the darkest of the 3 by a noticeable margin. the parallax adjustment is very fine which some may or may not like.

James I mounted my scope this past weekend, shot with it to get my 100 yard zero. To my eyes the Competition scope has noticeably better resolution then my BR version at that short range. Hopefully we'll shoot a 600 yard match this weekend, I'll have more experience with the new scope.

Im going to jump in here and ask a couple of questions? Why not just use a 40x leupold competition scope.
I use one on my 6ppc. and really like it. IT really shows mirrage well, but you can still see clearly enough to shoot. and even use the mirrage you can see. I feel it has more than enough field of view. I have never had a problem finding my target at 100 or 200 yrds. can see everything i need to. actually i am quite impressed with it over the old 36x leupold or weaver,sightron ect. so can some one tell me why not just use a straight 40x leupold.
One reason i ask is i need a scope for my 6 dasher and dont have the money to buy one right now. but if i thought i could for sure use a leupold competition scope, it would make it easyer to come up with that kind of cash.
as i know right now a place who still has them under 1k.

Leupolds are known to have issues with POI shifts. Their scopes go to chit at aprox 800 rounds down the barrel...

Thanks Jerry - good info - I am not a fan of the ultra high magnifications as I have seen too many guys cross fire as they can't pick up the target number when shooting fast strings...more so with FTR and the heavies....so the plan has been to run around 30+

I was hoping the good lenses with 30+ power would pick up the mirage - I am a little uncertain if the NXS 8-32 or 12-42 would have good enough optics to do so, whereas I would have thought a March or New NF would be fine hence the question to understand why everyone is swapping...

And this is why you need to look through these scopes to see what works best for you.

NF NXS have never impressed me for optics vs money spent. There are LOTS on the line so I have looked through a bunch. They don't work for me.

At this time, Sightron SIII 10-50 offers me all the features I want in a F class scope. The cost is secondary but sure is appealing to a lot of shooters. Weight, elevation/windage adjustment, long eye relief, mirage, side focus, tracking, reticles, nice knobs - its all there.

Some however, do not like seeing mirage when aiming at the target. For them, MARCH and S&B do what they want.

How good can these lenses be?

I shot at Chilliwack, BC last summer. This is on the WET coast and it had just rained. A bit of sunshine and you can imagine the humidity coming off the range - Think Sauna while shooting on your belly. My glasses would fog from time to time. Seeing the air is easy - just cut it with your finger.

With my sightron, the mirage was a bit too much at times. Dialing down to 30X kept things pleasant and shot some good scores.

My buddy has a S&B and I shot his rifle after mine. Guess what - NO MIRAGE. None, zero, zilch, nada. The target was crystal clear. I was stunned cause off the scope, you could see the haze with the naked eye. This is what he wanted and what he paid for. Shot horridly in part, cause I was now shooting "blind" - we didn't have a spotter.

So not a good or bad, right or wrong. Just what you want and how it fits your shooting style

Another buddy has March and similar to my eye. I just don't pick up any mirage info until way too high in mag which doesn't suit my style or strategy. Of the two, March/S&B, I much prefer S&B glass. But then I also love Leica Trinovid spotters with some KOWAs right there.

If you can, look before you buy...
