Ive had both for a couple years, here are my thoughts.

Pluses for VX6
-34mm tube gives great field of view. I find this very helpful for watching various conditions. Be it flags spread further apart or what have you. Lets you zoom in further but still maintain a wider view of conditions. Also increases ability to see misses. All of these have been major advantages for me. 34mm tube plus 42x magnification is amazing.

Just a few thoughts from someone using both.
I meant that it let's me zoom in further and still see my flags because of the wider view. I rarely go past 40x on either of them and I'm usually at less so I can see more of what's going on.That's a great comparison from someone using both, but I'm perplexed about a couple of things.
Comparing the Leupold VX6 7-42X56 with the Nightforce Competition 15-55X52, you mention that one of the pluses about the Leupold is that it provides a great field of view but it also let's you zoom in further but still maintain a wider view. How could you zoom in further when the top end is 42X and the NF is 55X?
I'm not sure that the wider tube provides a larger FOV by itself, the FOV is more dictated by the size of the inner tube than the main tube diameter. Are you sure that you were comparing the two scopes FOV at the same magnification setting or were you just using comparing at max power for both?
Reason I'm asking is that the Nightforce BR 12-42X56 has the FOV at 42X pretty similar to the FOV of the Leupold at 42X; within 3 feet at 100 yards. I would suggest that trying to see conditions at 42X is probably not as revealing as using a spotting scope at much reduced magnification, but then again, what do I know?
Anyway, good post. Thanks for the info.
