FORUM NOTICE New Members -- 30-Day Restriction on Response to WTB

In the past month there has been an increasing number of new members (with zero trade history) offering items in response to WTB threads. They may be trying to defraud -- offering something they will never deliver. Sometimes they just ask an apparently innocent question, but want to steal your email address.

They typically do this within a day or two of joining the site. They are blocked from starting their own thread so this is an attempt to cheat "through the back door".

Because of this we are thinking of imposing a full 30-day blackout.

So here's the deal. For now, if you have a WTB thread and a member with less than 30 days standing offers something, DO NOT BUY. DO NOT give out your email address. Send the user's name to us and we will investigate.

And for legitimate new members -- We request you Do NOT offer to sell something in the first month of your membership. We want to evaluate the best way to defeat these scammers. It helps if the honest, legitimate new members just don't respond to WTB notices for 30 days.

The same advice applies to PMs. If someone with no history sends you a PM offering to sell something.

Damn, 2 hours too late.
Got a PM from "flockcs" (joint today) about a wanted add.
He offered to send item pics to my email. I gave him my spam email. It wasn't even close to what i was looking for, and even if it was; I wasn't going to buy without protection.

I reported this scum bag to Forum Boss yesterday. Dead give away is they ask for email address knowing they will get banned shortly. I give the mods a lot of credit, It seems like a full time job to keep up with these scammers.

I have FLOKCS email address (at least one of them: guapmiles@protonmail.com).
I will report it to Proton to block his account. I'm sure he has many accounts. If we keep reporting, Proton will track his IP address and report him to Feds.
I have a yahoo email that is not used for any accounts or purchases for cases like this.

That is a great idea! Glad at least one forum is taking steps to protect its honest members. I do rarely sell, one buddy says I am a huntin shootin hoarder.
