FORUM NOTICE New Members -- 30-Day Restriction on Response to WTB

'New guy' checking in.

I do a fair amount of buying/selling on other forums, and haven't seen a 'new guy' rule as strict as this.

Not saying it's a bad thing, just an observation. Probably more of a good thing, actually.

Some other forums will let you buy your way in, which really won't deter a dedicated scammer. They can do a lot of damage in a couple days.

Im a new member and i just paid the $25 silver membership. Does this mean i still need to wait 30 days? Or is there a way i can verify myself with a time stamp or a different way. I have plenty of feed back other places if that helps. Thanks

Same situation exactly for me and that's what I'm wondering. Is it that we can't offer to sell to a WTB request or is it that we can't list anything at all?

I understand the reasoning behind ensuring people are legit, but I joined this forum to help sell my excess parts. I'm not a scammer I am a former marine from Texas just looking to recoup some of my investment from my many AR adventures. There should be an escrow system imposed to ensure everyone's money is safe. I'm also a with a team of assistants maybe they can help come up with a solution to your issues. I don't like fraud and hope nobody intends on scamming while I'm around it's too easy to follow digital footprints with my wifes help. I'm a lucky guy as she's an IT security specialist also trained by the government there's nobody she can't track down so please if there's any illegal activities let me know I'll do my best to help get your money back from these people. Let's all have some fun and enjoy what we're here for, firearms are my life's passion I'm trying to share some of my collection hopefully give you a great deal and make some money back. Thanks I hope this site is a good fit for me I don't do any bad buisness return buyers will save money with me.

In the past month there has been an increasing number of new members (with zero trade history) offering items in response to WTB threads. They may be trying to defraud -- offering something they will never deliver. Sometimes they just ask an apparently innocent question, but want to steal your email address.

They typically do this within a day or two of joining the site. They are blocked from starting their own thread so this is an attempt to cheat "through the back door".

Because of this we are thinking of imposing a full 30-day blackout.

So here's the deal. For now, if you have a WTB thread and a member with less than 30 days standing offers something, DO NOT BUY. DO NOT give out your email address. Send the user's name to us and we will investigate.

And for legitimate new members -- We request you Do NOT offer to sell something in the first month of your membership. We want to evaluate the best way to defeat these scammers. It helps if the honest, legitimate new members just don't respond to WTB notices for 30 days.

We will codify this rule more as we develop enforcement mechanisms.
How do I make a “contributing post” that begins my 30 day waiting period ? Just signed up yesterday cause I wanted to list something. Missed this ⬆️ Time frame deal (no worries, members were ALL OVER IT in letting me know). Anyway, I attempted to email, and ask how I could stay within guidelines/if what I was doing was in them. Got an invalid URL back. Just kinda need to know how to get started on the road to legitimacy

I hope this goes to the correct monitor. I'm a new member and I'm NOT trying to sell something, but I am trying to buy a Remington 40X or XB Rimfire rifle. I try to send PM's to two people listing that rifle for sale but they apparently are not receiving my PM to them. I have been a member of Rim Fire Central (RFC) since 2014, and a member of Benchrest Central from before that. Please feel free to search my credentials on those sites. I am honest, 86 years of age, and NOT out to defraud anyone.

Can you tell me how I should go about retrieving a PM to me. I must be doing something wrong because these folks say they are sending me PM's but I'm not getting them. Am I allowed to post my regular email address or phone number on my initial response to their ad so that they can contact me that way? Please help me if you can. These rifles don't pop up everyday so I'd like to pursue the ads as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help,

Jim Holian
