New Marlin/Ruger Lever Gun

Later today marlin will introduce their first ruger made lever gun. Its a big bore 45-70. It has a big loop, stainless, threaded barrel with thread protector, fluted bolt to make it twice as smooth as a well worn marlin of the past and fit/finish marlin or remington couldnt do before. I think the msrp will be $1200. The 336 will soon follow in 35rem and 30-30. Happy to be the one to bring you the news here first. First shipment is on the dock right now so keep your eyes peeled. Im not a lever guy at all but it shoots like a bolt gun at 100 and finally comes with a recoil pad from the factory. Glad to see ruger stepping up and innovating.

Is this to replace the 1895, Dusty? Like you, I'm not really a lever gun guy. But I do like the .45-70 (have a Ruger No. 1 in that caliber) and have considered adding an 1895 to the inventory.

I am NOT a lever guy. However, I love the way they look and feel. I have toyed with the idea of getting one>>>but it would be a Henry. Having said that, if the new Ruger / Marlin is what you say, I might be swayed to get one IF I can talk myself into getting a lever gun! I probably would do nothing with it but handle it around the house and LOOK at it! I have no need for one>>>BUT when has "NEED" ever stopped a guy from buying something he likes??? LOL!!!

Thanks for the news— I will definately check them out.

I never understood the big loop and never saw the need to twirl cock a lever gun like Chuck Connors.
I think the additition of a Picatinny rail and threaded muzzle indicates they're betting on the Tactical mall ninja crowd. There's something wrong with showing up with one of these with a muzzle brake or silencer attached.
However, if they made one in 444 Marlin, it would be one to contemplate.

Other than refinements it looks just like my brother's "Remlin" 1895 SBL in 45-70. Recoil pad looks a little bigger, fit and finish is nicer, might have to wait to see one at a store near me.

If they can nail the cycling and make it bomb-proof, that'll be a big achievement. The silly "bringing in two" error of the 1894's soured me on them. If they fix that sort of fitment problem that can impact cycling ...

As for the size of the lever, I've never been a fan of the "big" loops. But the mid-sized ones with an improved curve to them always made sense to me. Wrap around the hand a bit better, and a touch larger in order to accommodate a gloved hand (in colder weather).

Kudos to Ruger. If they've actually gone after the various little flaws and fixed them.

Easier to get a gloved hand into it in cold weather....
