New Hermes

I bought a New Hermes off of eBay and it has a motor on it. I’ll attach some pictures of it. I’ve used a similar model when I worked at Pierce but we dragged the cutter because their’s didn’t have a motor. I never messed with any of the adjustments or details of it, I just used it like they had it setup.

My questions are, can I use the motor to engrave a barrel? If not, do I have to replace any parts to be able to drag the cutter?

What engravers do you guys use/recommend that leave a nice finish and last awhile?

Wow. I used one of these back when I worked for Outboard Marine Corp (OMC). We just engraved plastic plates to mark bins and such in the assembly and machining lines. That's pushing 30 years ago.

Yes I engrave barrels using the motor.

Not sure. I'm using what came with mine. 90 degree will be the narrowest/deepest.

Have you used the motor to engrave before? With some research, it seems most drag vs cut when engraving a barrel.

I use cutters with motor to put serial numbers on the barrels. For caliber and my name I use a diamond drag. No motor.

One is a cutter. It removes metal to what ever depth you set. The diamond is designed to scratch the surface. It displaces metal making a fine line.
