new here and to reloading

i just joined this group. there are many areas of interest for me here.
back when the moron was sworn into office and things looked grim
i bought enough supplies to do some reloading if it became necessary.
thankfully, America has been spared that for the moment but i thought
i'd use some of the supplies before they go bad. besides i've shot up a box
now and it seem like a good time to start.
with that said, i've never reloaded anything so i can use all the help i can get.
theory and actual processes are what i'm seeking.
if there are any good online resources and recipes sites i'd sure like to be directed
to them.
thanks in advance.

Buy a couple of reloading manuals. Read them. (Not the load data but, the instructions.) Then read them again. Make note of anything, that your are not clear on, and then come back to the experts on this forum.

Second on what Doc said. Along with the Sierra reloading manual I purchased back in 1978, I also got "The complete book of practical handloading" by John Wooters published in 1976. I have gone back to this book many times over years and although out dated, it is a wealth of information. This forum and it's members are outstanding.

You came to the right place for reloading info, you're among friends here!

It's a pretty wide-ranging hobby so some specifics on just what kind of cartridge(s), rifle(s) and shooting endeavors you want to reload for will help keep suggestions on target.

Reloading manuals in general may have two or three pages of basic principals & practice recommendations, a good enough place to start if you know little or nothing.

If you're going to spend money, I'd suggest you find a copy (used, maybe Amazon, or somebody local?) of Glen Zediker's _Reloading for Competition_http://www.zediker.com/books/handloading/hlmain.html which goes into such depth that you'll need some time to digest everything inside, let alone put 80% of it into practice.

Try some internet searches too using various combinations: cartridge reloading, rifle reloading, handgun reloading, hand loading for competition, etc. Be creative! There's a lot of info on the net just waiting to be read & maybe printed out.

C'mon back here when you encounter a question or two you have trouble finding an answer for.

I would also search our articles on the home page as there is a wealth of imformation on the subject.

Here's two online sites:

1. http://www.accurateshooter.com/technical-articles/reloading/complete-precision-case-prep/

2. http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2009/12/reloading-neck-turning.html

+1 on all above. If you let us know the general area you live (like the state) I'm sure someone will be in your area and can give you some first hand help.

hasbeen: The Glen Zediker book is excellent. For a more basic "starter" manual with plenty of detailed photos to cover every stage of reloading, I would also suggest the Lyman #49 Reloading Manual. I especially like the Lyman manual, since they do not sell bullets or powder, so they list different makers bullets, primers, & powder in their loading tables. Their suggested accuracy loads have also been an excellent place to start, for me, when working up a new load.

+1 for the replies above! What calibers do you intent to reload for and what are you gonna be looking to do just hunting some matchs and so on?

Hillbilly

Another +1 on the responses. I'll also add a point that is stressed in the manuals and on this site. Be Safe! Do not allow distractions when you're at the reloading bench. If unsure about something, check your manuals and/or ask questions on this forum. No batch of ammo is worth your firearm and neither is worth any part of your anatomy or well being.

Suggestion - Get a Bullet Puller if you don't already have one.
Hope you enjoy your new venture.

hasbeen,
Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
I couldn't agree more with your opening statement but the moderators and forum boss frowns on political statements so watch how you present them, I take no offense to it at all but some may and I don't want to see you get off on the wrong foot. I agree with DocEd and fdshuster with there suggestions, also go through the archives here on 6br, and German Salazar writes some great articles on the Riflemans journal http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/
I would stay clear of you tube right now as there is a lot of bad info on there, there is also some very good info there but until you get some hands on knowledge don't believe everything you read and see on the web and especially don't take loading data from people off the web get your loads out of published loading manuals, I hope this helps and good luck to you.
Wayne.
